Questions regarding upgrade PT and Hardware
Hi,
I've recently returned to Protools (after a hiatus of 5 years due to moving and renovating our house). Even when I used it 5 years ago, it was for a relatively short time. Back then i used a DigiDesign 002 rack, ProTools 8 LE and Windows XP. I now have a designated room where I have set up some new equipment...this being a DigiDesign 003, Windows 10 and the ProTools 8 LE. A lot has happened since I've been away...DigiDesign is now Avid and ProTools upgrades have now reached 12. So, my questions are: 1) can I still use my ProTools 8 LE (bearing in mind I now have Windows 10)? 2) if I need to upgrade to ProTools 12 how much is this? 3) how easy is it to transfer the 003 to my name? 4) what is the 'system id' that is asked for whenever I try to register anything or contact customer support? I have Authorisation Codes' but where, or how, do I get the System id number? Many thanks in advance, and apologies if these questions have been asked before bit I am, in affect, stating all over again |

Questions regarding upgrade PT and Hardware
Quote:
1) I believe that the last version that worked with PT8 was WIN7 - http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...tibility-Chart 2) not sure 3) I dont think it matters less you just really want it in your name. Then its the same transfer of hardware form. Cost like $50 USD 4)System Id is when you already have the support service. Since you dont have an active support plan you wont have a sys id

Re: Questions regarding upgrade PT and Hardware
The 8LE upgrade path is no longer available as far as I can see so you can either buy a new PT12 version for 600-ish USD depending on where you buy from.
Or you can get a monthly subscription for 25-30 USD a month. Either way you can't get the upgrade pricing that is $299 if you have 8LE anymore. Your 003 should work on PT12 but make sure that you have the correct drivers. Seen many here who use digi003 successfully on PT12. The system ID would be found in your Avid Master Account where you haveyour downloads etc so if you get on to buy a PT12 license you will have ro setup an Avid account and an ilok account, buy a ilok2 key ($50) as the PT license and third party plugins and VI live on the ilok protection key. You have to buy one in order to use PT12.

Re: Questions regarding upgrade PT and Hardware
Many thanks for the speedy replies. Jeez, upgrading to PT12 (which, looking at the chart looks the only choice to me) is pretty expensive! I'm not even sure I really want to pay nearly £30 every month either. How come it's got so expensive in the time I've been away? The $299 I could live with, but twice that? The wife would kill me :)

Re: Questions regarding upgrade PT and Hardware
I see many second hand PT12 licenses (perpetual) for sale so maybe look into that in the buy and sell section here on the forum.
I have a few guys here who have PT12 licenses for sale around 250 ish USD if you want help with that. It will be a $25 transfer fee from ilok though so count around 275-280 USD for a perpetual license that you can jump into a plan later on if you want. The issue will be that buying a new license With a plan would be basically the same as buying a used non plan license as it cost $299 (which you know) to get back on a annual plan with updates etc and the purchase of second hand $275 then it is the same as getting a new unregistered License with a 1 year plan included. Just my thoughts but if you would want a second hand one let me know and i will help you if you want PS. The Eleven Rack in the link that includes PT12 one year plan for around 600 dollars can be used as a normal interface too. You don't have to be a guitar player to use althought it is a GREAT guitar box Many use that for guitars, vocals, synths whatever you want. Pretty good presmps, not the best but well worth that low price.
