Default Mac G5 Dual 2.3 (PCIX) OS 10.5.8 PT8.0 + SCSI What Card Works?

Hi I have a
Mac G5 Dual 2.3 (PCIX) OS 10.5.8 PT8.0
I have an ATTO Express PCI Pro UL3D
I have installed the driver.
But it does not work.
Digidesign's site identifies the UL4D as compatible with the G5.
I've seen a few mentions on the web about the adaptec 29160.

I'm confused. Everything I've read either says that the G5 is the problem or 10.5 is the problem. Some say I can run the ATTO with 10.5 on the G4.
Some say It will run on the G5, but only with 10.4.

I don't want to buy the wrong card.
Should I get the Adaptec 29160?
There seems to be a few versions of these,
Which one runs on the G5?
What about 10.5?
What about the ATTO UL4D?
Same questions, will it work on the G5 with 10.5.8?

Thank you for any help,
Bill Williams

can you tell me what versions of drivers and configurations utilities you are using? I have having trouble getting my UL3D on a G5 with 10.5.8 to work.

Thanks,

I use ATTO Configuration Tool 3.06 on both G4 and G5.

Make sure you use the PCI slot farthest away from the graphics card, so the top slot of your G4/G5.

As driver I use ATTO ExpressPCI Plus 3.20

I also use ATTO Configuration Tool 3.06, my settings are identical for both Channels:

Common NVRAM Configuration

Controller ID: 7
Termination: Auto
Selection timeout (ms): 16
PCI Burst Rate (bytes): 128
Reset Bus on Startup: Enabled
Wide ID's: Disabled
Fallback Sync Rate (MB/s): 20(10)

SCSI Target NVRAM Configuration

Specified Target: 0
LUNS: 0 to 7
Allow disconnect: Disabled
Tag Command Queuing: Enabled
Sync Enabled for this ID: Enabled
Sync Offset: 62
Sync Rate (MB/s): 160 DT
Wide transfers: Enabled

ATTO prefers SCSI drives with an ATTO driver installed, but it also works fine with SCSI drives formatted by Apple's Disk Utility (HFS or HFS+)

Hi,
I downloaded and installed the most recent driver v 4.43 and
configuration tool 3.38 and flash bundle 2009_04_10.

Then after reading your post,
I found and downloaded Driver 3.21 and config tool 3.07.

Config tool 3.38 did not work at all.
But Config tool 3.07 did recognize the card.
However, when I tried to install the 3.21 driver,
the previous driver 4.43 still showed installed.
I'm not sure if the flash worked or not.

Questions:
1) were you using the UL4D or the UL3D ?
I have both cards now.
2) do you have the drivers that you list above?
I could not find those exact drivers on the internet.
3) would you send them to me?
If so you could email to [email protected].
4) Do you know how to uninstall the 4.43 driver so that I can start fresh with the lower number driver ?

I think I'm getting close to getting this to work !

Bill Williams

1) I'm using the UL3D in G4 and G5, but it should work with the UL4D too
2+3) mail was sent with all I have from ATTO attached
4) if I remember well a newer driver will be replaced by an older driver

I hope this can help you out...
