Default ATTO EPCI-DC blocking boot of OS 10.4.1

Just bought a G4 1.25GHz MDD (not FW800) to replace the 350MHz machine I started with (yes, I am slow to upgrade). Running OS 10.4.1. When the ATTO EPCI-DC (same as Digi SCSI128) is installed on the PCI buss, the G4 1.25 machine won't find it's boot drive, just sits there flashing the "no system folder" icon. Tried removing mix cards and only booting with the ATTO, same thing. Tried different card positions, same thing. If I could get the system to boot (!), I would flash the card to update firmware. Or must I install the ATTO card in another machine and flash it first? I've already downloaded all the utilities from ATTO's site for this card and OS X.

Anyone run into this? If so, what's the solution?

Thank you very much, fellow Digi-heads!

Nope. I installed the OS9.1 drive in my new G4 running OS 10.4.1, and went through the process of updating OS9 - 9.1, 9.2, 9.2.2 in order, per the instructions. The OS 9.2.2 drive appears on the OS X desktop, and is offered as a boot drive in Preferences, but it won't boot into OS9. In addition, now it won't boot in my G4 350 either, so my whole rig is down. Joy. It's looking like I'll have to restore the OS9 boot drive just to get back to work....

I thought the ATTO EPCI-DC/Digi SCSI128 is approved for OS 10.4? If so, why is it not letting my system see the boot drive?
