Default External SSD question

I currently have a mid 2007 IMAC with Mountain Lion and I am running PT 8.0.5 using the 003 console. I currently use an external drive to run my PT sessions on. I have been doing this for years with no problems.

I will be upgrading my IMAC and I will have it built with the 1TB SSD internally and I would like to run an external SSD drive and I am wondering if I purchase an external SSD card and put it into a SATA enclosure and then use a USB connection to my MAC if it would be the same as purchasing an external HD. It would be a fraction of the price. Does this make sense?

I have a couple Kingston SSD's in USB3 enclosures and they work great.

What I want to do is purchase a Crucial M500 960GB 2.5-inch Internal SSD and put it in an enclosure and hook it up via usb and have it work like an external drive. The cost is a fraction. Does this sound feasible for running PT on that drive?

Craig you have been invaluable with your knowledge. While i have talent I have not that much tech experience. What does bridge board mean and in layman's terms can I do what I am referring to with respect to using the above mentioned set up as an external drive? It seems as if you are saying I can do what I am referring to but I want to be sure.

Thanks

the bridge board is the board that converts the USB, Firewire, and/or Thunderbolt to the SATA or PATA/ATA/IDE (for older drive cases) connector of the drive

Is that also know as the enclosure I am referring to? In other words the card plugs into the enclosure. Or is this something different?

you can buy an enclosure w/o a bridge board or you can take an old SCSI case (or even an old CPU case) and add a bridge board to it to reuse the case

when we use to talk about he Oxford Chip Set for Firewire drives, it was the Oxford chip on the bridge board we ware talking about
