Default External HD Question...

I'm about to purchase an external hard drive so I can get PT up and working again on my new computer. Would this hard drive be sufficient?

But other than that will it work? Would I run into any problems if I used this one even if it's only 2mb for cache?

The small cache will probably be a problem. So will the firewire chip on the motherboard and in the enclosure - you are going to use firewire, yes? - if either or both of the chipsets is not Digidesign approved. USB is not supported by Digidesign as a recording drive.

Another option, while not supported officially by Digidesign, is to get an eSATA ExpressCard and an eSATA enclosure/firewire enclosure with a Western Digital Black Caviar 32 mb cache drive - the one that seems to be the favorite so far on the DUC. Then use the eSATA connection for recording and the firewire connection to transfer files somewhere that doesn't have an eSATA connection. No one has commented on any problems using eSATA to record.

Cheers,

Yes, I'll be using Firewire.

Pass walmart and go here
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firew...W800_FW400_USB
the right-most column has drives with 2 FW400 ports(handy for daisy-chaining a Digi 002/003 if you upgrade later on) and these work well with Pro Tools. They might come formatted for Mac so you would delete the partition and reformat as NTFS BASIC. BTW, these are less money than wallyworld drives too.
