The only way you can add punch (dynamic range) to your mix is to calibrate your monitoring to -say- 85dBC which is pretty much standard. Lock your monitor controller there and never touch it. Then you will instantly know if your mix sucks you need to redo it.

That is the reality check.

But if you want feelgood listening, sure just turn the damn volume knob up.

I was trying to relay some basic common sense.
But you couldn't just leave it, could you?
