EQ Question for Chick Singer,keys and band project

So,I've got this project mixing a belty chick singer (think Janis Joplin)who plays keys.So,in my mixes,it's all about the mids.Trying to figure out what to cut and what to leave in between her voice (Alto,tons of mids)and the keys,which are the main instrument in most of the mixes.If I scoop her voice,I'll get the "Spice Girls" curve,which is not what we want here.If I cut the mids on the piano,it sounds more like the Yamaha D90 that it is.The other main instruments are bass,drums and acoustic guitar.It's basically an Elton John or Billy Joel gig from the 70's in that respect.So,I'm trying to shoot for an "MTV Unplugged"sound,minus the verb.So,I'm trying to strike a compromise between scooped and fat,EQ wise.Any ideas?Plugin settings/curves/recommendations/references?

I'd be more inclined to hunt for the right mic/pre combo that does the trick for the mix.
