If you did build a new haswell based rig, it would probably out perform what you have now. But just fixing your ram and upgrading to a 6-core processor would outperform the haswell based rig and cost less.

At least that's my opinion. And like I said. I'm probably not the one to ask

And for kicks I just looked it up. There is a "consumer" series of socket 2011 chips. Not sure if anyone has built a rig around them, but that's where I'd look. However it looks like the base 6-core is around $550. They do have a quad for about $300. That's def the direction I would look.
Well thanks. I will look it up. Something is really wrong with my computer everytime I open Kontakt and a few vst. Ugh. I just uninstalled Komplete 9 and reinstalled it and it's doing the same thing..... Soo at the least I'll have a new rig...

I still contend that it's your mismatched ram that is holding back your current system. IMO ram is cheap enough that it would be worth the time and effort to sort that before building something new. VI's are heavily RAM dependent. So I could see where that would be causing your issues. And while it's not Kontact, I can run the full suite of AIR VI's and not have a problem with my rig. And yours isn't that much different.

That said I didn't read your list of parts very well. That list is basically what I was suggesting. The i7-3930k is the chip I even looked up for my post.

But if there are newer chips only a couple of months out. Especially if they will have an 8-core option, it might be worth the wait.

Matched ram can be the difference between life and death of a session. Get as much matched ram as your motherboard can handle. Also cloning your system drive on to a SSD will make a hell of a difference. Don't skimp on either though.

Lol Let me tell you what's funny, I can run a TON of AIR VI's but soon as I open that Kontakt or Massive it's nighty night. I'll go buy some memory right now and hope that's my issue.
I really appreciate everyone's help and suggestions regarding this.

Thanks. I'm going to go check that out right now.

Fill all the available slots equally (if you have an even number) rather than loading up on to one or two sticks as well.

Things worth spending money on for stress free motoring - fast and large SSD, enterprise standard fast media drive x2, best PSU you can get, as much fast matched ram as possible, fastest most powerful NVidia GTX650+ GPU as possible. Basically you need to clear as many bottlenecks as possible, offload as much specialist processing as you can (GPU) and giving all the components all the juice they need to handle sudden stresses.

I'm going to see if my local computer can supply some of this if not I guess I'll be on line. I was thinking my mobo was outdated (which it is a tad antiquated) so I was looking for alternatives because this current problem is hindering all progress. I can record fine but as soon as the production (making a track) after a few Native Instruments VIs, it's crash and burn.... Ugh

I'd take a look at the Asus boards which have Thunderbolt.
