Default Pro Tools HD 9 will not open on refurbished HPz820 with Windows 7 64 bit

Hello. Longtime PT user here. After upgrading to an HP Z820 Workstation with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit with SP1 and optimizing my system using the Windows Optimizations for PT list, I cannot get my version of Pro Tools HD 9 to open.

When I launch PT from the desktop icon/start menu nothing happens. No splash screen. No error message. If I go under the Task Manager and click the Processes tab, ProTools.exe is present. So it seems like the computer is recognizing the executable but for some reason the launch process is held up by something. When I try launching PT a second time, I get a window that says "Only one session of pro tools is allowed at a time".

I've tried reinstalling PT several times, in several combinations: from my install DVD, from the 9.02 and 9.05 full install downloads from the Product Download links from my Avid account, etc. Thinking it was a driver conflict I uninstalled every driver I could think of, my wireless card driver, my GPU... I've also tried installing several different GPU drivers for Quadro 4000. I've went through Avid's tech support and they could not resolve the issue, even after escalating it to the point where their engineers were looking the problem. Lastly, I performed clean format fresh install of Windows 7 Pro with Service Pack 1 on my HDD. Still can't open PT. No splash screen. Still see the ProTools.exe taunting me in the Processes tab of the Task Manager.

This is a last ditch effort to get the system working before replacing my new computer. It was really expensive so I'd prefer not to, so any advice would be appreciated!

My system is a 2x E5-2670 Eight Core 2.6Ghz 16GB 512GB SSD DVDRW Quadro 4000 850W

Indeed. This machine should do a good job.
What exact version of PT9(and have you tried a few different builds)?
What is your interface(and is Windows trying to use it as the "default playback device"?
Is windows fully updated(Service Pack 1)?
when you run the PT installer, are you right-clicking the Setup file and using the Run as admin option?(you should for anything you install on windows 7)
Is PT set to always Run as Admin?
FWIW, I have a friend that uses a Z800 with PT12.3 and its a powerhouse

I've tried 9.0.2, 9.0.5 and 9.0.6 from Avid's Download Manager directly on their site as well as my install DVD, which is 9.0.2.

My interface is an Avid Omni. According to Pro Tools Tech Support, the interface doesn't even need to be powered on for the splash screen to show. He instructed me to try it with my Native card uninstalled as well. I currently have been troubleshooting without the interface/native card in the loop.

I believe so, yes. Will try again just to be sure.

If you mean is the 'Run this program as an administrator' checkbox under the Compatibilty tab of the Pro Tools Properties window, then yes. I have tampered with all of the checkboxes on this tab. Nada.

I don't remember if 9 used iLok or hardware for auth, but if iLok, iLok provides a legacy drivers folder with the regular installer. This might be an instance where installing the old driver will help with compatibility issues. Hanging that early might be indicative of that. Create a system restore point just in case you need to unwind any changes. If you want to experiment, download the demo of 11HD and see if that runs. It may be a low level 64 vs 32 bit driver thing.

PT9 uses iLok and at this point, I would recommend using a newer iLok 2 or 3 over the old key-shaped first gen

IIRC there were several issues with 1st gen iLoks on USB 2.x ports. So that might be a hardware issue if the OP is still using 1G iLok.

I use 1st gen iLok/USB2 on two Win 7/PT9 rigs. Never an issue.
