hahahahahhahahaha!!! Sorry, Just kidding, I love that.........

Actually, I kind of wonder what they would sound like re-capped, and with some Burr Browns or something.....
I'd have to look at the PCBs and components used, but I bet they could be modded pretty sick

Wanna sell me your bad ones? How Much?

lol

From memory I think they are using JRC5532D's (as used in the Soundblaster Live's) so any upgrade would be a bonus...

Re-capping the old TC & SK Electrolytes wouldn't hurt ether...

I seriously thought about upgrading them just for grins about 6 months ago but I never got round to it...

I might do it if I get some time after Xmas & post a comparison...

N

P.S. If that selling decision in 'Studio A' was down to me they would have been in a skip two years ago.....

I already went and did some quick research.

If I can get a schematic from Digi or Focusrite I'll be set, I'll mod the snot out of em.

(I have a few buddies who do things like building SSL Mixbus clones and 1176 clones such)

I'd like to mod a pair and rack mount em.

Digi, can I pretty pretty please have the schematics and everything for the pre's?

How bout just shooting me the Control 24 service manuals for EVERYTHING!!!!?????

please?

Ya, I'm wondering about that one too Shorty. I too have used the focus-"yeah-right" pre's when I needed just... one... more... mic... But I have never entertained the idea of recording a whole song with these destroyers of focusrite's reputation. I'd like to hear some examples if anyone has any.

p.s. Mods would be very welcome!

http://www.myspace.com/djgreenems Finished work
http://www.myspace.com/ems1mc Rough Drafts

These are my guy EMS but check the quality. ??????????????

BTW: Using my OCD right now to track down all the necessary's to make the mod happen.
I'm thinking I'll rack mount em. :) Nothing but power and 16 pots out the front of a 2U
(Don't think a 1U is big enough for 16XLR's and 16 TRS's).
I'll also need to find a set of donors.

A good quality toroidal core transformer may be the way to go if you are keen on having them in a separate box, swap out all the resistors for Vishay Dale metal film & re-cap with Silver Mica's, Sprague Orange Drops or Atom's (although I think the Electrolytics are all radial rather than axial so maybe Illinois Electrolytics)

...I really must have a look at the PCB again, you shouldn't need schematic though, it should be a relatively simple circuit...

Cheers

Yeah, I'm thinkin it could be pretty simple.

Measure voltage and whatnot of the leads in the control 24 to check power supply requirements. (Service manual or schematics would simplify)

Figure out the 'pinout' of the ribbons...... (Service manual or schematics would simplify)

Choose a pot..... (heh heh.... no stoner's, it means potentiometer......)

rack mount it..... shabang. There you go.

And of course the mod of board components itself, but shoot...... that wouldn't require a schematic, no....

:) Anyone have a set of donor pre's? Even fried? I'll take em.....

I've already got my buddy drueling...... He loves this stuff, as do I

(Nick, sell me those pre's!) heh heh

[quote=Shorty Emcee;1321813]We are currently shooting How-To, Tutorial DVD's and the Control 24 is to be the second video we shoot. All HD.

I will post a link on the forum when it is finished. I would expect the Control 24 video by the end of February.

(The first one is going to take some time)

Shorty-

Please try and remember my name- and let me know when your 'How-To' on the Control 24 is ready to release.

I'm in.

Thanks,
Buel
