Mac Pro Toslink Output into SPDIF: Converter?
I want to be able to listen to various Mac software as PTLE is running on my 002R.
My MacPro has a digital Toslink output, but my digital mixer TASCAM DM4800 does not have such input, although it has ADAT lightpipe which is a different format. the DM4800 It has a RCA SPDIF input. I googled and found a cheap $25 Toskink to SPDIF converter, and there is also the Behringer SRC2496 which costs about $200. Are any of those viable solutions? Does a $25 such converter introduce more problems that it solves? Note that I do not want/need to send the ouptut of the Mac into the 002R as I am already using the ADAT lightpipe input for 8 channels. Comments and suggestions appreciated!

Re: Mac Pro Toslink Output into SPDIF: Converter?
A couple of options i use:
1) Stereo aux input in Pro Tools with inputs 7-8 selected, mini jack to stereo RCA plug in to ALT SRC. 2) A cheap mixer.

Re: Mac Pro Toslink Output into SPDIF: Converter?
Thanks, but I want to be digital to digital with no quality loss and no AD/DA conversion in the chain. Using the analog out is just not a viable option for that. As far as a cheap mixer, not sure what the point is. I have a mixer already (not cheap in my case but digital, thence my desire to stay digital and avoid AD/DA), but it doesn't have a Toslink input, only RCA format for SPDIF thence my question before.

Re: Mac Pro Toslink Output into SPDIF: Converter?
M-Audio makes a box called a CO2 which does exactly that. I've used it in the past and didn't have any problems. It's about $60.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...nd_S_PDIF.html What's the brand of the $25 one? I'd take the M-Audio over the Berhinger in a heartbeat.
