Vocalign- worth it?
Was just reading in the Fant-Saez pro Tools book that she swears by Vocalign. I realize the book is already a bit dated. I've seen some differing opinions. Gotta say, I'm a sucker for double tracking vox. Thoughts?

Re: Vocalign- worth it?
hay many,
just doin a session yesterday where i told the band vocal align is the most under the radar plug there is and one of the reasons i'm over analog (unless you'd rather re take 40 times!) it's especially nicse when you have multiple vocalists who are going to have a much harder time matching compared to the ld vox tracking everything. and not just for vox; it's tight too on tambourines, or cln gtrs, or basses, etc. elastic has stole some of its thunder but sometimes VA is faster; i prefer a mixture. years ago i bumped up to VA Pro, which really is almost set and forget compared to VA Project; well worth it b.o.l. e

Re: Vocalign- worth it?
Vocalign is amazing. If possible, you want to get Vocalign Project 3, as it will work in Protools as well as Logic (in case you decide to use that later on). Vocalign pro adds support for HD and some other features.
There is a version of Vocalign that used to come with the older DV Toolkit and works only in Protools LE. It's called Vocalign Project LE. I mention that because you might find the Ilok license for it cheap on Ebay. It deals with timing, so it works on both monophonic and polyphonic sources. Amazing on vocals, but works great on things like double tracked electric or acoustic guitar. Or even getting a bass guitar to match the timing of synth bass when you want to layer. And if you get into doing sound for film/video it's worth it's weight in gold, especially for overdubbing dialog, etc. |

You hear it all over pop radio along with Auto Tune.

Gotta say that's a new one, never heard someone say they could hear Vocalign.
I guess if it's being used incorrectly you can hear something.

Re: Vocalign- worth it?
it's used on multiple takes and doubling vocals to time align them and make them tighter.

Re: Vocalign- worth it?
I'm guessing I would probably be able to "hear it" in my tracks- perhaps for the lack of chorus-sy nastiness and notably tighter sound?

Quote:
My point was you made it sound like it has a distinction to it like AutoTune that allows you to identify it, which is not the case.

Re: Vocalign- worth it?
I used it once for a motion capture session because we were short on time. After recording the Voice Talent, the Mocap artist practiced the line as closely as possible to the original and was then recorded with those fancy dots on his face so we could get the facial motion data. As the mocap guys were cleaning up the data, I processed the audio from the take they were using, imprinting the timing from the mocap session onto the performance of the VO Talent.
Yeah, that's not the usual way to go, but once that was done I helped them find a synch point and saved them a ton of adjustments. Instead of tweaking the mocap data to make it match the VO talent, we effectively matched the VO talent to the mocap data.
