There is no defined purpose for either version of Pro Tools currently, which means Avid can change either application on a whim. It is that uncertainty that is probably keeping people's wallets as closed as possible with anything Avid. I'm not sure Avid even know what they are going. It certainly hasn't been a clear path to where we are now, which is why we are here. Even a whole bunch of HD users just spent 8 months of their $399 a year support plan to get a feature they will never even need.
This. My annual fee of $399 has been spent, AFAIC, for track freeze/track commit and bug fixes AND "a year support plan to get a feature [I] will never even need"... and I still feel like I'm paying AVID to beta test for them.
Is that crazy or what?!

Everything written here is true.

But Avid promised MIDI development in 2017, and it would be wonderful.

PT's MIDI base is excellent, especially on the visual side, but the tooling, handling, specifically with windows and roll-out panels worthy of the 90's, while today's screens allow a display of functions, Open panels, curb creativity and speed of work.

If the Avid mountain still gives birth to a mouse, then I stop, and hello Cubase and Reaper, and maybe Studio One.

In doing a search for another topic, I ran across this thread and it seems to me (as with a lot of us I'm sure!!!), Avid has started charging the world 99 bucks (or a lot more!) per year, and then taken a nap??!!! The only good I see in this direction is having pro tools ready for a new buyer. (OR????) Who knows,,,, wait and see I guess.................

PS I'm sure this has probably been mentioned here a few times(?) I haven't taken the time to read the whole thread).
