Default Issue: Calculating Waveform Overview

Hi all!

Recently I bought Pro Tools 11 and everything worked flawlessly with the installation (Mac).

I now have a problem when working with Pro Tools through my external drive.
The Pro Tools program is on my main internal SSD in the macbook but I have all my sessions with audio files and such on my external USB3 drive.

I can save and open sessions to my external drive but when I drag an audio file from my external drive to the workspace it just keeps Calculating Waveform Overview forever and nothing more happens. Same when I want to do some elastic audio. It just keeps looping forever.

Is there a way to fix this problem?

I have searched this forum but couldn't find anything that could solve my problem. If there is such a thread please pinpoint it to me. :)

Hi, and welcome to these forums.

Which version of 11 are you using? There are many fixes and improvements in the latest version (11.1).

Which format are these files you're importing?

Which tasks are listed in the Task Manager during the import (Window (menu) > Task Manager)?

Thanks.

I have actually never heard/read of Pro Tools being stuck on calculating overviews, and it works fine here (external USB). That doesn't help you, so let's continue…

Which OS version?

How is the external drive formatted?

Spotlight indexing enabled? Make sure no drives appear in the privacy list.

The OS version is: 10.8.5

The external hard drive is formated in: exFAT

What is Spotlight indexing? :/ How do I enable that?

The drive should be formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I think that's your problem.

Took a look at the indexing and I think it is enabled. But I don't understand the privacy list that you are talking about.

Weird because I looked at this thread and this guy says that it works fine with an exFAT drive. http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=347536
Any other solution? Really don't want to format the whole drive, so much backup that is needed to be done. :/

I understand. A recent thread (post#9) seemed to reveal a problem with Macs and the exFat format.

Spotlight preferences and privacy is found in System Preferences > Personal section > Spotlight > Privacy tab.

Not at all, exFAT is a native multi platform partition type, supported since OS X Lion and Windows 7.

In fact, it's better to have the disk using exFAT for compatibility.
