Default Can you make front panel mic line level

I just purchased a Slate Digital microphone that needs a dry line level input from the Slate pre amp. I'd rather use the standard mic input with xlr mic input rather than put a adapter on the xlr cable coming from the pre amp. The Slate Digital software running in ProTools will make the neutral signal into a Neumann or other great mic. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Paul

The XLR connector the front of the Eleven Rack is for a Mic, so you should connect to the Line Input (on the back) which uses a TRS connector. Looks like the Slate Preamp has both XLR and TRS outputs.

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking the mic input on the front panel should work to as it doesn't affect the mic input unless you run it through the rig. All you have is the volume, pad and 48v phantom power, all which are on the Slate microphone preamp that comes with the Slate system.

Wot?

The Slate system is supposedly/hopefully a nice integrated system with Mic and Pre-Amp. Just use it like it was designed for. Why do you want to mess around with the Eleven Rack mic preamp at all? The Eleven Rack mic preamp is nothing to write home about, it's a convenience built down to a low-cost.

Jeffro has already pointed out the Eleven Rack has a line level input on the rear panel. Just start by connecting the Slate preamp out to the Eleven Rack line input.

The Eleven Rack rig processing you mention is completely irrelevant to any discussion here. The DAW should be recording the mic or line input from the Eleven Rack directly, none of that goes through the Eleven Rack rig.

You should be avoiding the mic input for this use because you cannot remove the internal mic preamp from that input, so it always has the potential to color that more than a line input would.
