Default PTLE 7 Single core processor performance

OK, I installed PTLE 7 on my Laptop, AMD64 3000. Definately took a hit in performance, not fatal but noticeable. Lost 5 aux tracks on the davec, 32+13 to 32+8. Also have some occasional buffer errors I haven't seen in a long time and a weird clock error that came up when doing the davec near the CPU max. I attribute that to the stress on the CPU and am not worried but I have never seen that before.

It's not critical and I like PT7 but I don't like losing any stability or performance capacity. 6.4 was incredibly stable for me and I never worried about errors when tracking.

Digi is looking into a possible fix for RTAS on single processors apparently, from the PT7 page...

"Final release testing of Pro Tools 7.0 has shown that there are some performance issues with certain RTAS plug-ins when used with single processor computers. Instance counts on OS X-based LE systems may show a small decrease with certain plug-ins; Windows XP-based LE systems may incur a small performance hit as well with these plug-ins. All plug-ins tested show significant instance count gains on dual-processor computers. Digidesign is actively looking at these issues and hopes to have a fix for this as soon as possible."

I am curious what others are finding with the new release.

I took a hit too. I lost 2 aux tracks. (from 32+21 to 32+19) But I'm going to do a reformat this weekend and install PT 7 fresh and see if that helps. I'm also using an AMD. It's an AMD 64 3700+ (754).

What plugins and versions are everyone using? It seems to me that there could be a few variables
to all of this. Are the version 7.0 "optomized" plugins having problems and older versions running fine on single CPUs? or are pre-7.0 plugins showing this too? I would think it would be more of the plugins than PT 7.0 DAE. If this is the case, then reinstalling the older pre v7.0 plugins might run fine for the time being untill Digi works out the issue.

I just upgraded to 7.0 for my Mbox 1 last night and I took the time to make sure I had all the
new v 7.0 versions of my plugins that are avalble installed. It was pretty late so I havn't had a chance to check out the performance. I noticed on download page for my Upgrade Plus plugins showed
the older version installers there for download also so I grabbed them just in case.....

I read a recent post on an issue with the Pultec stuff I'll have to check out here soon.
If I see problems with all my new versions installed,I'll reinstall the older ones and compare.
If I see a difference, I report here either way.

I used just the Digirack plugs, updated of course, for the test.

Can't comment on the Pultec issue, I am still waiting for my I-Lock to arrive.

I wouldn't say it's full of bugs. It actually seems pretty stable so far.

I haven't tried everything yet,but I can confirm the Pultec 12k issue and I found that both
old and new versions of Smack have really messed up metering that even causes PT's meters
to get all sluggish. The strangething is that the audio runs fine with no CPU spikes.

I agree I think Pro tools is fine,it's the plugins that are the issue.

I installed the older versions of both the Pultec and Smack plugins and the
problems still continue with both of them. The only thing I can try now is
using them with Mpowered to see what happens.
