I'm interested in the thunderbolt adapter also.. Would this work with a digi 002r with firewire 400 into the thunderbolt on the x99 motherboard? Thanks!

Default thunderbolt

first

Make sure your MB has a TB header for the PCI card, that means its TB ready.

I can tell you that 2 different FW 400 (non combo) cards did not work with 2 different asus x99-a MB's

What I cannot say is why for sure.

Asus thunderbolt II pci card with an apple TB to FW 800...then an additional 800 to 400 adapter is the only solution here for my Focusrite with a FW 400 interface.

BTW focusrite sent me a FW 800 to 400 adapter no charge.

Thanks for the heads up! So this MB is not so good?

It has a thunderbolt port if that is what you mean? Any working alternatives are much appreciated.. I checked the HPz's out.. Nice but pricey here..

The MB must have a TB header (4 pin plug)

I got the TB card and adapter from sweetwater, about 120 for both

The MB is fine but I would not buy another because of the asus service experience

Ok, I think I get it now.. Quite a workaround considering the cost and my digi002 might not even like it?!?

This is what you mean (with adapters mentioned) from 002 to TB to motherboard?

Default ASRock X99, i7-5960X, and Intel 750 PCIe SSD: HDX2

ASRock X99 OC Formula mobo, i7-5960X CPU, 32GB G.Skill 2133 RAM, Intel 750 PCIe SSD boot drive, ASRock TB2 AIC, Sonnet Tech III-D with 2 HDX cards on TB2, Omni, HD I/O, S3, Artist Transport, SSDs and spinners, Win 8.1 x64, PT HD 12.1, AMD HD 7970 GPU (MSI and Sapphire versions work well), 2 HP ZR30w panels on DP.

Build highlights: Disable trad BIOS before trying to install Win. Intel 750 must have UEFI. PT HD 12.0 and 12.1 with HDX selected as PBE hung at Initializing Audio Engine until I reset the OMNI to factory default. Enable TB in "CPU Setup" in UEFI; TB2 in PCIe slot 3 worked for me. Win 8.1 x64 installed from thumbdrive in 3 min. 30 sec. Don't see a need for a Xeon. Avid just (as of 16 July 2015) listed 8C and 10C Xeons on HP Z840s as the only compatible 2011v3 CPU systems (Avid TS told me that E5-2640v3 and E5-2660v3 Xeons were in the tested systems). HDX cards may not work if installed in PCIe slots on mobos other than in certain HP Z workstations.

I also bought and tried a Gigabyte GC Thunderbolt2 card (dual port) on the ASRock mobo. Worked fine. The mobo TB header pinouts are apparently the same (at least on X99 ASRock and Gigabyte mobos), and ASRock and Gigabyte are both using Intel's TB2 device driver. Don't know about ASUS, Supermicro, EVGA, etc. The current problem in TB2 is finding a PCIe AIC in stock.

Why do you want to run the 002 from a TB port? If you are looking to the future(a wise idea), just add an approved firewire card for the 002($50 tops)
