Default Command 8 repair

I have a Command 8 that I use with PT 12 and it works great when it works. Had to sell my ProControl and passed on a D-Command when Avid EOL-ed them.)

The screen seems to be going (or maybe it's power supply related) but what happens (now 98% of the time) is that all or the pixels light up fully on the screen so that it's completely unreadable, making the unit pretty much unusable.

I have come up dry trying to find solutions to this issue, or even a repair facility that has a clue.

If anyone knows anything that would be helpful, PLEASE let me know.

Thanks!

2 things come to mind:

1-given the vintage(the same as the 002) and the harness issues of the 002, I would open the unit and reseat every connection that uses a white plastic(nylon?) Molex connector(do each connection several times in hopes of scraping thru any oxidation on pins and sockets).

2-if that fails, http://www.allproelectronics.com/ is an avid service center(they are in Nashville, but you could ship the unit for service) in case there are none close to you(the main avid.com website may have a listing if you can navigate it) In any case, allpro did a great repair on my old 003 control surface a few years back

Reseating connectors might do the trick, but even better if you dip them into alcohol for a moment before doing so. Just to clean them up.

I've seen faders going crazy just because bad connection and come back after re-seating so there is a good chance your problem may go away as well.

Also, before opening the unit, double-check that the power supply is properly seated. Wouldn't hurt to clean that connection first.
