Default Hiss reduction plug in?

Is there such a plug in that does this without effecting the sounds you do want? Any suggestions welcome. Im googling it now but some of you will obviously have experience.

The noise reduction in Sony Sound Forge is one of my favorites. Go demo it. You will need to export and import back though.

Waves has an offering as well that works nicely.. http://www.waves.com/Content.aspx?id=197

A bit pricey maybe, depends on what you are trying to restore.

Peace!

Thanks do you think any of them would work on this set up? Or are they more for after a recording?

Most good noise reduction plug-ins are for treating recorded audio material. After sampling the noise, an algorithm is put into place that attempts to cancel the noise without overly affecting the desired audio.

I have some ideas, which I'll post after work tonight.

It has to do with using an expander gate on your broadcast monologue to eliminate low level noise between words. Also a high pass filter to eliminate wind and rumbling noise. And possibly notch filters if there is a single frequency noise from an electronics device.

I have heard good set ups that dont let anything through until the words are spoken, I'd be interested to know how this works.

Ok, I actually made a template of the plugin settings I chose. I think I'll post a link and you can use the session template and tell me how it works for you.

This is an example of a high pass filter to cut off low frequency rumbles.
An expander gate to eliminate low level noise between spoken words.
And a compressor to even out the volume a little.
And a 2% Room DVerb just to make it sound realistic.

When you open the session mics 1 and 2 will immediately output to Analog 1 and 2. So be prepared.

Here is the link to the Pro Tools template. Right click on it and save it to your desktop. Then open it with pro tools and it will let you create a session based on this template.

Since I made this template for two threads, I also posted this link in the Hardware Compressor thread.
