Default RegEx-guru question

Hi,

anyone know a RegEx code that can move X amount of characters from the head of a clip or track name to the end of a given name?

So to to turn this

HELLO_somemorestuffhere_123

into

somemorestuffhere_123_HELLO

for all selected tracks or clips?

That said all the characters after HELLO can have all sorts of different forms and length but HELLO_ is always the same. And I only want this to happen to the names that start with "HELLO_". Otherwise I could have simply used the find/replace and add suffix fields I guess...

Thanks

Frank.

Yes, but I'm looking for the RegEx code for the change I mentioned. Regular Expression code. Learning RegEx is beyond my brain's capabilities at the moment so I was hoping someone here might have a solution. It's probably the easiest thing ever for a RegEx-guru. :-D
Thanks

Frank

I’m no guru but this should get you there if you do a find all HELLO first for clips and tracks.
You can do it in Reg-ex but I’m not sure of the Command.

FIND should be ((\w+)_(\w+)_(\w+))
REPLACE should be. \3, \4, \5, \2, \1

You might need to play with TRIM or REPLACE to get what you want.

Make sure to checkbox Regular Expressions.

Awesome thanks, will try...

Actually your hint about find the "HELLO_" clips first already pointed me to the solution even without RegEx. How could I not see that...

What I did:

Find "HELLO_" by name

Select all in the clip list.

Then

Trim head by 6 characters

and add suffix "_HELLO"

Done.

Thanks so much!

Frank.

Great! That works too and it doesn’t give you a headache.

FWIW - you could do all of this pretty easily with Keyboard Maestro, including asking for the search field and then automatically finding, stripping, and pasting.

A Better Finder Rename lets you move phrases to anywhere else in the name. It's a great flow and very powerful.

Yep I have that but this was specifically for renaming clips in the timeline to improve readability in tiny view.

Batch rename in PT can't rename file-names anyway.

Yes but PT has all that on board now in the batch rename window. Takes 1 second to process instead of key-sequencing over thousands of clips with KM.

Ah. I see, you want to rename clips (or track), not files. Sorry, my bad for not reading better. I need a Better Forum READ-er. :)
