Default Mixing Narrow & Wide Drives on PT III?

Hi,

Is it possible to mix Narrow & Wide external SCSI drives connected to the ProTools III Disk I/O card?

Thanks,

Samhein,

I'll have to check, but I'm not sure we've tested this configuration. We've looked at wide drives on the Disk I/O, and generally, it works. (There are some known issues -- recent IBM drives and the Disk I/O are incompatible. Under investigation.).

The Disk I/O is pretty old SCSI technology, so it might be finiky about it. If you try it, all of your narrow drives should be first in the chain, then use a high-byte terminating adapter between the last narrow device and the first wide device.

Steve,

How would one go about connecting a wide drive to a disk I/O without having some sort of narrow (Centronics 50 pin) drive in between?

Is there a different cable or an adapter that will connect a disk I/O to a wide drive?

Are there any other "known issues" with wide drives?

What SCSI spec is the disk I/O (PT-III PCI)?

Thanks,
Ray.

One more thing...

If a wide drive is connected to the end of a narrow SCSI chain, wouldn't a terminator on the wide drive take care of the high byte termination?

E.G.

Disk I/O <--> Narrow Drive <-adapter-> Wide Drive <-Terminator]

Thanks,
Ray.

I've just placed an order for an 18 Gig Ultra160 drive to use on my PT-III rig.

Is this a mistake?

Is there anyone reading this that can prvide some answers to this thread?
Or to http://www.digidesign.com/ubb/Forum20/HTML/000316.html

I'd appreciate it.

TIA

Ray.
