Default Any new BUFFER -6086/6093 tricks?????

I'm in error hell again. Got a great, fast mac, big huge empty drive, bla bla bla. This is getting ridiculous.

You're not the only one! I've recently upgraded to a brand new Dual 2.7Ghz G5 tower with 2.5 gigs of RAM and have been running Pro Tools 6.9.2 for the last few weeks; I've never seen this many 6086 errors and crashes! I'm using a 002 with the latest firmware.

It's really quite ridiculous. I sank all this money into a new computer to get AWAY from these problems... Digidesign needs to figure this out.

i was stuck in 6086 hell a few months ago and it made my 002 / PT 6.7 setup almost completely unusable. I record on a G4 1.25 Dual Processor so the situation might not be completely analagous to you two, but...

The only thing that help me after 6 weeks of troubleshooting was buying a new firewire card. It cost me about $70 if i remember. We suspect that when my 002 power supply / DC Harness died, the replacement parts sent a power surge into my computer frying my firewire interface when i first powered it up. (The 6086 problems began immediately after i replaced the power supply / DC Harness)

If this scenario seems plausible for you setup, i recommend taking a risk on a firewire card. (For me, it was better than having some MAC specialist troubleshoot at $100 / hour w/ no guarantee of finding the problem)

Anyways, mine has worked almost flawlessly ever since.

....but even to this day, seeing the number 6086 sends a cold shiver down my spine.....what a nightmare.

I sincerely hope my firewire port isn't fried!! Man that would suck, huh?

You know though, I could certainly be making a foolish mistake by plugging the 002 into the firewire port on the front of the computer instead of the one on the back. I'll make that change this evening and see if anything improves (I'm not holding my breath, mind you).

As for a Mac specialist you'd need to pay to troubleshoot it, I AM a Mac specialist. I'm a certified Apple technician and I've been doing it for about 10 years now. So you can bet I've tried all the regular Mac-related troubleshooting steps to no avail.

I've been hearing from quite a few people, however, that after moving to Tiger and 6.9.2 that they've seen a significant drop in the number of RTAS plugs they're able to run simultaneously.

I'm running Logic Pro 7 on the same box, and it's running like a champ! I've got the Toontracks Symphonic Silver sample collection (uses the Intakt plugin from NI), and I've run 7 iterations of it at once in Logic without any trouble. With just ONE iteration in Pro Tools, if my buffer size is anything below 512 I get 6086 errors. I wanna cry...

Things seemed to get significantly worse when I updated the 002 firmware to 1.21 as well. Previously I was still running 1.04 with no difficulties.

This really needs to be straightened out. I can't have Pro Tools running this poorly...

Please list any troubleshooting steps you've taken, as this will help immensely when trying to determine what is wrong with your system.

Also - you do not list any other hard drives in your profile - are you possibly using your primary hard drive for recording and playback?

The first thing I would suggest are all the steps in the 'General Troubleshooting' sticky at tht top of this forum. Also, for those with a 002, in the HW Setups, check the option to ignore buffer underruns, which may help.

Thank you very much Moxon!!!!! I have the same G4 1.25 Ghz computer fighting the same problems for a year now. It is almost unusable at this point. I will try and get a new PCI FW card to see if this solves the problem.

Take care & Thanx again! : )

Hi Digi Support, thanks for posting!

I am most definitely NOT recording/playing back from the boot volume I certainly know better than that

Thus far I've run all software updates (incl. the new cs2 patch for LE), on Mac OSX 10.4.2, upped my RAM to 4.5 gigs, repaired permissions repeatedly, ran daily/weekly/monthly maintainence scripts, got latest firmware on 002, made sure that 002 is plugged into firewire port on the back of the machine, rebooted into single user mode and ran fsck, and cleared all system and user caches. Still no good.

Any other ideas would be most appreciated!

Same problem in the new studio of a friend : impossible to work professionnaly on PROTOOLS.( G5 BIPRO 2X2ghz with 1,5 GO of RAM, NEW OS 10.3.8 Clean installed)

He has a DIGI002R.

Apparently 002R has to be changed : there is a lot of bad units : a electronical mapp has to be changed. AFter 20 min the DIgi002R lost connection with the MAc....plus 6086/6093 error while playback........plus MIDI BEAT CLOCK which does n't loop

SirLexelot: Not that this is going to help you.....But I sympathize totally. I'm in the same boat ( but with a Dual 1.8, PTLE 6.7 ) and I can't seem to get through 15 minutes of Recording/Mixing/Mastering without the dreaded 6086. I've tried everything they've suggested and still no positive results. What happens when you've selected the larget HW Buffer Size and this annoying inconvenience is still around? I have not explored the Firewire Card replacement mentioned in this thread, but that too is a bit far-fetched.

I am at the point of labelling this ridiculous. For me it's not even worth discussing my frustrations online.

I still have my Windows Digi001 system alive ( thankfully ) so I can get through my Mastering phase. I thought the new system would get rid of all the old shortcomings, instead it's produced more problems than it's worth. And I still record with Digi001 cuz I can't count on this shoddy DAW.

I've all but given up on scouring the anals of the 'net for answers. That, in itself, should be all you have to know about Digidesign's stance on this.

Fortunately I'm a professional Unix Developer so I can use the Mac for something useful.

My Fostex 4-track isn't looking too bad after all....

Just thought I'd post my solution to all of this.

Upgrade to Tiger, PT 7 LE, and Bob's your uncle ( for the bargain-basement price of about $300 CAD )

Things work as they should and I'm recording/mixing in 24/96 with mucho plugins.

Bertman.....
