Default Trouble with Digi 002 Optical Input

Hey all, I'm new to optical audio, so I appreciate your help! I'm trying to import audio from my VS-1880 via the optical inputs but I'm not receiving any audio in PT.

I have pro tools successfully slaved to the VS (which is important bc the tracks I import must be synced precisely.) I'm using toslink cables, not coax cables. The VS session and PT session are both 44.1, 16-bit (the VS must be 44.1k, 16 bit in order to get 8 live inputs.)

In PT, I have the audio tracks selected to the optical inputs (ADAT 1-2) and in the Setup Menu I have it selected to ADAT, not s/pdif. (I'm going to try changing it to s/pdif later today to experiment...)

In VS, Digital Out 2 (the toslink output) is routed to the Master bus, so the routing seems to be correct there...

Anyone have any ideas as to why I receive no audio when I press play on the VS? Thanks!!

You're on the right track. Switching the optical format to S/Pdif should get it going.

Are you sure? As they are not using a SPDIF connection that must not be right.

To the OP... I know it sounds obvious but have you armed the track for recording? The set-up you describe should be right.

The only other thing I can think of is the internal routing in the VS-1880 not being setup correctly.

The optical output of the VS is likely SPDIF(a 2 channel protocol). With the 002 Optical input set to ADAT, it will not read SPDIF. DTS is correct that you should set Optical to SPDIF for this connection. If the VS has an RCA SPDIF output, then you would leave Optical=ADAT and use the RCA SPDIF input.
