2 gb is the initial "sweet spot" on a Mac Pro.. 1 GB was always considered to be restrictive.. More is better (to a point)

As far as the error, what does your CPU usage meter show?

You can also watch Activity Monitor from the OS.. Just turn on the Floating CPU window..

If you start with a sparse session and gradually add plugins you might be able to discern which are the CPU hogs..

I can definitely cause the CPU to overload by adding lots of instances of Eleven, and the CPU meter goes up fairly linearly until that happens..
