2006 will have been when Avid (Digi then) introduced the decent post mixing features into the Icon series. Up till then using any Digi controller for full on TV or Film mixing was a massive frustration. I believe they achieved this by recruiting specialists from Euphonix and Neve.

Haha!

Sure, let me buy two of them.

Actually, the facility where I work (my "day job") will in fact be considering new controllers at some point. (Icons now.)

But, given the abject failure of PT11, there's no way we're putting our facility at risk by running essentially a beta version. Hence, the facility will not be making any purchases for at least this coming year, and possibly longer depending on when we believe PT11 is ready for professional, daily usage.

As for my home facility, I'm staying with a perfectly functioning PT10 and my working Control 24, and will keep all of my vendors happy over 2014 and hopefully longer. I will defer (or avoid) any more Avid purchases until they start showing that they are concerned for their long-time customers... which includes simply offering a working version of their software, which aside form 10x... they have not.

Avid had the nerve to send me a customer satisfaction survey after I had purchased the PT11 upgrade for my laptop. (Before I knew they had purposely written out our controllers.)

Imagine the company that charges you to talk to a human asking you what you think of their customer service. How would we know?

It's hard to come up with a perfect analogy, but Avid is somewhat like the penniless drunk who stumbles into an upscale hotel bar he used to frequent, believing he still has clout there for some reason. He's done everything wrong, and yet he believes he is in a position to make demands.

I mean, imagine a dying company... that puts out a pre-beta version of a software to a bunch of professionals telling those same pros they have to pay to talk to them about the buggy, flawed software they sold them.
You have to admire the nerve, honestly. Problem is... just like the homeless drunk, we know how this is going to end...

if its so difficult for avid to write these 64bit drivers from scratch ... why does protools 11 have some of the same bugs from 10? if its been re-written you would think the code would be clean 64bit code. seems like they just did a code conversion to me. the bugs got converted along with everything else. so it must be easy to just convert a simple driver.

Dealing with the ProControl's Matrix can't be that hard. I understand why the Control|24 people are even more mad seeing that it's very close to C|24 in many aspects.

And word from the Beta team members that the ProControl & Control|24 Controller personalities WERE in the pre-Gold Master HD11 builds is even more infuriating!

If there's some other 'new bug', so be it! I'll work around it if it's not a showstopper.

Making these controllers 'boat anchors' for anyone looking to go forward is also very 'un-green' and reflects poorly on the company that is the 'worldwide industry leader'.

Come on Avid, just give some programmer the job OR sell me a $250 iLok asset to allow us to continue to work with these highly functional machines!

Do we need to start an indie Go Go campaign to make it happen?!? If it's about money, I'll pay. Let's go!
worth repeating

Hey, Avid is smarter than us, guys. Alienating pro consumers who don't have an extra $24k is a great idea. They know what they're doing. Stock is near all time low and company is bleeding almost -$2.00 per share.

They make great decisions. We are just a bunch of cheap dummies.
