Default Pro Tools Reopens after Exiting

I'm running Pro Tools 12.7.1 for Windows. Recently, whenever I'm done working and I Exit the software, it closes down then tries to restart and gives me this message:

Quote:
Assertion in "..\ ..\ Sys\ Win32\ Sys_FileLocWin32.cpp", line 548.
I'll then close it again and it will stay closed. Next time I run the software it opens correctly.

Anyone else experiencing this?

I'm running:
PT 12.7.1 for windows
Windows 10 64-bit
16 Gb Ram with Vienna Ensemble Pro Slave
Dell XPS 8900, i7-6700 CPU

It's not "closing down" it's crashing on an assert. Pay attention to this, who knows what could happen, lose sessions, updates, corrupt sessions etc.

Often caused by a plugin, including using rewire, or maybe a corrupt session.

You have some trouble shooting to do to find the problem.

What Darryl said

I would start by trashing preferences and databases before i try the below idea.
Link here: https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare...s-preferences/

Also this can be caused by plugins not used in any session so if this happens on all sessions you might wanna start there.

Make a new folder on your desktop and Move all your plugins to the new folder.

Then you would add maybe 4-5 plugins at a time until all are added and see if that did it. Make sure you go thru All of them before moving on to the next step

Thanks for the info concerning the "Assertion". This solved my problem. Now I just have to find the culprit plugin that is causing the grief.

I don't regularly use Protools because there always seems to be a workaround that I did not know about. Instead of just posting the actual error, Avid should be handling this kind of error and pushing on.

But thanks to you I am no longer dead in the water.
