Production Music Libraries.
Is there anyone else out here besides me that records and pitches music to production libraries? When I first got into production music (That's why I got PT anyway)for films and television, it seemed like a great idea and prospect, but they seem to be just as rude as regular publishers and labels. I've compared my tracks to what they're using and mine is just as competitve and sometimes better then what they are pitching. I've run into a wall on these people and have decided to go back to regular pitching on songwriting, but still want to write for the film industry. Ironically, I even have a first cousin in that industry that seems as closed to listening to new music as thay are. Has anyone out there had any luck using PT for production music? Just curious,,,

Re: Production Music Libraries.
You need to develop relationships with industry people, and even when you know people, it's still hard - but keep at it. That sucks about your cousin, at least you have an open door there. I've established a relationship with one of these production types a couple of years ago, and I'll be honest, I haven't earned any money with him yet (well, MTV wanted to use six of my bands songs a while back, but we turned it down cause they weren't offering any licensing money, which was OK, but they didn't want to put in writing that they were going to do the cue sheets). But now that I have a good relationship with this person, my hopes are that eventually we will begin to earn money together.

Re: Production Music Libraries.
Yea its all about relationships. My market is totally controlled by 1 freelance writer, and all the local stations have their own crews. I get the occasional scrap but not enough to live on. Actually, its even getting bad for SFX cutting and foley now, come to think of it.

Re: Production Music Libraries.
Yea, that's true. It's all about who you know.I lived in Nashville for about 4 years and learned that the hard way. I've heard a lot of great music get turned down simply because they have no connection to anyone in the business. According to TAXI it's a piece of cake to walk your music in the door. I was going to join TAXI once until I found out that above the membership fee to join, it also cost you 5 dollars a song to submit, which can get pretty pricey, especially if TAXI rejects the song, you still pay 5 dollars.I asked them about that fee and they said they make no money off of the fee, but after doing the math of 9 thousand members (so they say) pictching just 1 song a month, that adds up to quite a bit of change.I can't tell you how many rejections I've received from Music companies, simply because I don't know anyone in the business, but it's a lot. If they would simply listen to a lot of music sent their way, many great musicians could make a living doing just that.

Re: Production Music Libraries.
Just keep at it buddy. Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do. Try to make as many friends as possible. I've had plenty of rejection, but it never stopped me from what I love.
