Default OT: FireWire no longer works......

.....on my iMac DV SE 500, OS9.1, m-box, PTLE 5.2, 768mb Ram. My system has worked flawlessly for well over a year. Suddenly, no firewire.

When any firewire item is connected, the iMac has a tough time even booting. When it does boot, the system devices shows nothing connected to the firewire buss.

2 firewire drives: a 75gb BusLinkHD and a QueFire cd burner. Both are being recognized and work on all other Macs I've tried.

My Mac repair guy replaced the logic board, as his tests showed that it may have been the victim of a lightning strike. No firewire with new logic board, either.

I've wiped the IDE drive and reloaded 9.1 several times...same result.

Anybody else had this problem?

Thanks.

Yes. It appears a firewire bus can be killed by improperly plugging/powering a device. I know it's not supposed to, but I've seen it many times, usually from pre-Oxford 911 devices, but not always. I had to get a little $30 firewire card for my studio's G4. Lame. But the card seems to work better than the onboard bus ever did.

Good luck,

steven

I worked all spring on a demo project, carrying an ADS FW enclosure between 2 studios and having 0 problems. Then 1 day some jackass buys a cheapo FW case, plugs it into the Mac with the HD system and BANG, no FW bus. I, not knowing what had happened, take the thing to my home studio to take a look plug it into my LE system and BANG, no FW bus. Needless to say, don't buy cheapo FW devices, or you wont have a FW bus either.

Thanks, guys. Kinda weird because my system worked perfectly with these same 2 firewire peripherals for over a year. It was eventually narrowed to the Buslink HD, which has been returned to the factory. I just hope Apple will pay for the 2nd logic board. This is getting to be expensive.

Thanks, again.
