Sound Library on external SSD
Hi guys, I'm thinking to move my sound library to my external SSD as I have seen it is working better on similar music production app when I need to record a virtual instrument, because my macbook on my internal SSD (write) and from external SSD (read). My external SSD is a sandisk extreme 900 but my reading speed is about 430mb/s because of my USB 3.0. Do you guys think is a good idea?

Re: Sound Library on external SSD
We have gone from having all our sample libraries on spinners at 7200rpm as to new fast SSD drives as they have become better with the years.
But many people still have spinners as buying 3+ TB of drive space on SSD's is still a cost many can't afford those prices. If you can use SSD for libraries aswell then go for it.

Re: Sound Library on external SSD
Thank you guys for the confirmation. So I'm thinking to move the Avid Loopmasters 1.0 in documents folder and Plug-Ins in Macintosh HD>Library>Application Support>Avid>audio>(Plug-Ins). Do you recommend to move any other folder?

Not; Macintosh HD>Library>Application Support>Avid>audio>(Plug-Ins)
I wouldn't move anything in that folder. I have all my Samples (Toontrak, Kontakt, AAS) on 3 external SSDs, but don't move your plugins.

Move those plugins and PT won't see them. They take up so little space it's not worth it to even think about moving them.

Re: Sound Library on external SSD
Thank you for your suggestion. I'm doing this with Symboliclink , my macbook can not recognise from where it reading these files, but I finally don't touch the plug-ins, its not necessary are just 2GB.

Re: Sound Library on external SSD
You should avoid manually moving things around and using symbolic links, not unless you really have to, the installers or utilities the plugin vendors provide for installing/moving sample libraries should be the first choice, especially to avoid breaking things on future updates. A symbolic link is not totally transparent and software can be confused by them (and software can certainly tell if something is referenced though a symbolic link vs. normal hard link if it cares to check).

Re: Sound Library on external SSD
Yeah, you have right, I'll just keep my Native Instruments library and SFX on external SSD. I keep my pro tools on internal drive. Thank you
