This makes it even better. You work at the store or you are the support for the store that you work for ?

Either way. That combined with admitting that you don't know a great deal about this stuff and coming online blaming Avid ?

Awesome.

have you tried a different USB port. Of the many PC's i have owned over the years, all of them had USB ports that quit working from time to time, though I never had that problem on my Mac's. It is possible the port isnt working.

Have you tried to put the ilok into different USB ports on the computer?

I would be less inclined to blame Avid or the ilok itself, and think its a computer/ software issue.

Do you have a second ilok to transfer the license to and rule out the ilok malfunctioning?

Get a buddy who works at your store and runs ProTools to put that I lock on his system and see what happens

jonopeters,

I was with the same problem. Last December 2011, I downloaded PT 10 Trial and installed on my computer. After 10 days, suddenly, the same message appeared to me!!!

I tried to find a solution on Avid, Duc, Google, but with no success. I reinstalled PT, ilok drivers, everything, used another machine... PT 9 was working with same ilok device, but PT 10 no! So, I gave up.

Last month, i decided to buy Pro Tools 10 and downloaded the license to my only ilok device, and voila: PT 10 is working fine. No error message!

I don't have the solution, but I know that the problem has something between the license downloaded and the ilok device.

I'm truly sorry Chris, but i am in complete sympathy with "jonopeters" here.

Not only are you avoiding to acknowledge how incompetent Avid are in relation to every other competitor on the market, who dont seem to have nearly the same amount of issue's regarding actually getting the software to work. You also seem to be suggesting that other third party installers and other things that protools need to function properly eg ilock drivers and so on, should be the problem and that Avid are in no way responsible. Even if its not directly a protools problem, the other components needed to make it function should be of primary importance to you and your team and hence you should be blamed for the utter annoyance you have caused your customers (thousands upon thousands) who have this same issue, me included.

You should provide us (at the very least) a call "help line" that is easy to access, quick, and provides solutions, not making everyone else figure out the issues. (logic, cubase all have this) and they are cheaper BTW.

Ive spent 500 dollars downloading your product and ..... NOTHING... i shouldn't have to spend 2 weeks trying to figure out problems, even if its not directly protools fault.

If i get protools 10 working and/or someone in your team can actually help me, i may consider being a return customer in the future. However if this continues I'm sure i will not buy from you guys ever again and will strongly recommend others don't either. and trust me i know a lot of people in the business.

I don't like Avid's model for providing support, which is basically the same model used by the car industry. Namely, support is provided by the dealer rather than directly by Avid themselves. The reason I don't like this model is because the consumer not only has to work out what product to buy but also has to be diligent/lucky enough to find a good dealer. Everyone knows this dealer based support model is used almost without exception in the car industry, so consumers pay attention to finding a good dealer but this isn't the case in the computer hardware/software industry. I don't believe Avid make their support model completely clear to potential customers and this results in many new customers of lower priced Avid products buying from whoever offers the lowest price and ignoring the ability of the dealer to provide support.

Basically, "junopeters" has admitted that he bought ProTools from a dealer who is incapable of providing any support whatsoever (and he knows this because he works there!). Presumably he bought PT from his store because he got a great price but now he needs support, his gamble hasn't paid off and instead of blaming his dealer (and himself), he's blaming Avid. I believe this is the reason Chris Lambrechts is upset with both junopeters and with the store where he works.

Talking Re: "Missing iLok authorization" error for MAC USERS

Ok, now I am actually completely pissed off! :) Kidding. I posted something because I tried everything I read about or could think of and... I NEEDED HELP. Some other AVID customers have gone out of their way and tried their best to do so. Young Chris Lambrechts, your sarcasm, insults and stupid arguements are NOT helping! I'd like to see you say that kind of stuff to a customer in a face to face situation and see how long it would take you to either get fired or punched in the face!

The majority of my post was NOT ripping on AVID. I was simply describing my problem as best I could. All you replied to was the last and least important paragraph. I was following the guidelines set out on the page about "What to read before posting". I did take all the necessary steps. I can't believe the attitude here. I only posted because I want this problem to go away because its annoying. And I get slammed for that? Your very protective Chris. Quite the company man eh?

Is there a problem with me admitting that I am not an in house engineer at sunset sound? Nope, I love it when people admit they don't know everything personally. Because it shows they are open to being wrong. And I am open to that as well! Anyway, I didn't mean I was a complete idiot. I'm not one of those idiots who buys Pro Tools, doesn't know what he's in for, and then gets angry for no reason to whoever. Been using Pro Tools for about 7 years now that I think about?! Jesus...

I can't believe that someone from 'Avid Field Service Europe' has basically taken a giant crap on me when all I wanted was help! And I dunno why anyone would get offended about what I posted? (The duck poo comment was made only in the name of good fun!).

And just so you know, I bought it from Allans Music + Billy Hyde because I got a staff discount (which isn't actually much cheaper than what most customers would pay so don't worry other customers!). I spoke to the guy (Kyle) in Audio Tech department. Brought in ALL my gear so he could test it all. He said to hit up you guys, cos this was a weird one.

At the end of the day, I'm not doing anything wrong by saying I'm annoyed at AVID. I have every right to be annoyed. And to be honest, if you think it's the iLok that's the problem, then I will get annoyed at iLok! Haha. If I pay a lot of money for something then I really want it to work. People don't like paying lot's of money and having something not work! Wether its this part of it or "that" part of it.

Anyways, I've already done what yamahadrums suggested. And I'm still waiting! And let me tell you guys, there was no lovely lady at 1800 - iLok who sent a helicopter rushing out. It's been about a week I think? I dunno, But I'm not gonna be watching the clock for this one.

And just for the record...I'm still pretty annoyed at AVID :P

And a big thanks to the users who have helped me out with this!

And to little Crispy Lambrechts...As you were...

I'm having the exact same issue on my Macbook Pro 2.2GHz and Pro Tools HD 10 software. "missing ilok..." when ilok.com reads it fine.

Any solutions to this ?

If avid has chosen ilok as part of it's solution, they need to own the ilok relationship. They have much more leverage with ilok than an individual avid customer has. If you have customers with lots of problems with the ilok solution, Avid needs to fix it, or enter the 21st century and get rid of this backward scheme that just annoys us paying customers.

Chris, I just started reading this thread, and from an outsiders perspective, your attitude needs some adjustment. I am a software developer, and I would never treat my customers like you do.

Enough said.

Well Said Daiku.. the ilok problem IS a problem as it can happen randomly mid session... an unacceptable risk to place oneself in a live situation on tour .. At least without the "polling" of the ilok you know if you have a problem upon loading pro tools NOT randomly mid session... which has happened twice to me with NO definitive reason why as it is working now on a PERFECTLY installed stable system ... AVID has an issue... it's a matter of time before a MAJOR act has a freak out with this and starts a domino effect of mainstream artists avoiding AVID.. i have already found two major acts bitterly complaining about it even with multiple sync'd rigs ... everyone here would know these acts.

I hope AVID addresses and reassesses it's software implementation of anti piracy SOON and reaches a professionally acceptable solution rather than place their head in the sand like Chris has.. If Chris's attitude is reflective of all of AVID's attitudes then this is worrysome. right now i've jumped back to DP where i started..... cannot, will not place myself into a situation where jeopardy cannot be avoided and embarrassment in pressure situations has a possibility.
