How much maximum RAM does the Mac version support?

How much maximum RAM does the Mac version support?

I know XP or Vista only do the 32bit systems so they only support a maximum of 4gb of ram. What about the Mac systems? The PC is cheaper/faster vs the macs I'm looking at. I'm just wondering how much maximum RAM the OS that can run protools on macs will support.
