Pro Tools 12HD crashes when working @ 96k
I've been having this problem for a while now. I normally work at 44.1/48k sample rates with almost no crashes. My system runs super smooth.
But when I get 96k(88.2) sessions, my system crashes very frequently. I can't pinpoint any reason or any specific action or situation that would trigger this crashes. Sometime it crash while I am just listen to the song, sometime when I am editing, or changing plugins parameters. I had I crash once with Pro Tools on idle. I don't believe is a plugin problem, cause it happens independently of the plugin combination I am using. It is very annoying. Here is my system: Pro Tools HD 12.7.1 HD Native Card 192 interface Mac Pro 5.1 2 x 3.33 GHz (12 core) 32 Gb Ram Slate Bundle Waves Bundle Softube Console 1 Eventide H3000 SoundRadix AutoAlign Soundtoys Bundle Valhalla Verbs iZotope Neutron All my plugins a current up to date. |

Pro Tools 12HD crashes when working @ 96k
What exactly happens in a "crash". Pro Tools just disappears? Error messages?
Warnings/Messages in the logs in Console.app? Edit: start by looking under User Reports for crashes from Pro Tools itself and any strange messages in system.log around the time Pro Tools crashes. When did this start happening? What standard (or other?) trouble shooting you have done? Like... Trash prefs Remove all plugins from the plugin folder.... restart. Only way you will know for sure if it is not a plugin issue. Specific to a/some sessions? Try starting with a totally empty session. Try from a newly created OS X admin account. Try using built-in output as the playback engine. Reinstall Pro Tools. Keep trying all the above together. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Last edited by Darryl Ramm; 06-01-2017 at 02:02 PM. |

Re: Pro Tools 12HD crashes when working @ 96k
2 things come to mind:
#1-what buffer setting are you using? with a 96K session, push the buffer to its highest setting to ease the load on the system. #2-if all else fails, create a 48K session, Import Session Data and SRC to 48K so you can mix(odds are the final product is going to end up at 48 or 44.1 anyway). I did this with a full CD project a while back. 96k was just hammering my rig. The audio was so poorly recorded(the engineer was a great sax player......) that it made no difference to the final quality and I was able to work the mixes, unimpeded by crashes or freezes

Re: Pro Tools 12HD crashes when working @ 96k
I use 96k all the time and don't experience this. What I'm guessing is that some of the 3rd party plugins that you use and I don't are causing the trouble. Valhalla verbs for example. Experiment by removing some brand plugins and see when the problem goes away.

Re: Pro Tools 12HD crashes when working @ 96k
I had a lot of issues a while back that ended up being traced to the eventide plug ins (at 96k)
