static issuse vinyl>PT10
i am recording vinyl into pro tools via a phono amp into my mbox 2.
it sounds fine when i monitor the vinyl, but when i record enable it introduces massive static, even with the pads enabled and the inputs turned all the way down on the mbox2. what is happening? turntable>ST.RCA>phono-preamp>ST.RCA-Dual TRS>D.I-mbox2>PT10 windows 7 64-bit |

Re: static issuse vinyl>PT10
Could be ground. Are you using a laptop? If yes, try to run it on battery without power-supply connected. If you work with a desktop machine check out the leads you're using to hook up the phono-preamp. Are the leads balanced? If yes cut the ground on one end, re-connect and see how it goes.
A general tip is to remove items one-by-one from your recording chain. If the problem persists after removing a particular piece of gear you know it wasn't the trouble-maker. Continue until you find the source of the trouble. Hope this helps. J.
