Re: How many people here will not be able to upgrade to PT11or12 because of EOL hardw
How can there be any discussion of PT12 when its not a reality? As for 11, I was happy to hear that my 003 would, after all, be supported, but moving to 11 is still months away for me as there are too many plugins I need, that are not yet available in 64 bit AAX format. For now, I am happily getting my work done on 10.3.5. If the day comes when I want an update, and it doesn't support the 003, I will find another hardware option then. Meanwhile, nobody needs to update for the sake of updating(although some act like they have a gun to their head). Heck, there's people in Nashville that still use 6.4 with an 001

That date just means how long they are committed to servicing the products. If I am wrong please correct me. NON OF THESE WILL WORK IN PT 12 and alot wont work in PT11 strange that I seem to be the only person who has a issue with this. |

Coming in with emotion and assumptions do not help the issue or discussion. The fact is nobody is going to know what is EOL until the time gets here. 11 hasn't even got past its infancy. I doubt avid knows for sure ATM. No credit for the 00 stuff that was supposed to be EOL but they got working anyway?? No credit for something like the pro control that went years past its EOL date working just fine?

Re: How many people here will not be able to upgrade to PT11or12 because of EOL hardw
What announcements have been made about PT12? Unless this is supported by a statement from Avid, it's empty conjecture. I'm still navigating the PT10-11 transition. We're not even through with that, and it's time apparently to start another b*tch-fest about the next hypothetical problem.
The only things I own on that list (the TDM cards) are already EOL, and they're still working fine in PT10.

Re: How many people here will not be able to upgrade to PT11or12 because of EOL hardw
It's progress. Don't be upset that Avid wont write software/hardware that will run on a Power Mac 8500. Things get EOL. It's a pain sometimes, but it's reality. Windows XP gets EOL in April 2014. Stay with old software. A lot of studios don't upgrade every upgrade. If its working for you, and you are making money, stay with what you have. If not add it to the cost of doing business.

Things get end of lifed all the time - deal with it. Would you rather use an old style rotary phone instead of a pushbutton phone as your wired home phone? Rotary phones got eol'd by most phone companies decades ago. Don't know why you're even worried about this as you don't use any of it. |

Re: How many people here will not be able to upgrade to PT11or12 because of EOL hardw
Pro Control will stop me going above PT10 for quite a while sadly. I need my Pro Control to keep working. I don't care how old it is. Even if it is limited by 32-bit control. Just give me a controller profile on PT11 that will work in 64 bit mode. I am happy to keep to 8 character limits on send names to prevent crashing. If you add it, I will buy 11, 12 onwards. If you don't I will not. Simples.
Also, will my Mojo SDI work with PT11- cannot seem to confirm that? Whilst I would consider moving to Black Magic- it is nowhere near as tight on sync as the Mojo- fact! Tested with many SyncheckII with many codecs- BM drifts. Mojo 100% tightest sync of any video solution out there. BM poor replacement. And TBH, I'm not impressed with the added feature-set of PT11 for dialogue editorial / sound post- over PT10. There are sooo many workflow issues still & problems with conforms & working with multichannel (/ newly added with the latest version)- that I feel really should have been addressed rather than all the 'fluff'. Nothing to entice me to upgrade. Admittedly- non-real time bounce looks nice- but I can certainly live without it. I would much rather my Pro Control carried on working. Peas out mofos. Re: How many people here will not be able to upgrade to PT11or12 because of EOL hardw
I use a Lucid 88192 with the ADAT i/o on a Digi002 on PT10. So I can't upgrade to PT11 / 12.
I would like to eventually buy a RME / Lynx AES/EBU PCI card to use with my 88192 but with the cost of the card & a new computer to run it all & replacing my Macbook Pro but the cost is way off for me in present circumstances. I'll just keep on working with what I've got |

Re: How many people here will not be able to upgrade to PT11or12 because of EOL hardw
It needs to be noted that EOL or end of support doesn't nessecarily kill a peice of hardwares functionality. There are (many) items on the list still working fine. I wouldn't expect PT12s hardware requirements to change much if any from PT11. As noted the big rewrite has happened. The EOL listings are to give users a heads up so they can make some plans.
As far as I know the biggies that would keep users from upgrading are HD Cards and losing their Pro Controls. If PT 11 onwards provides some features they need than they will find a way. For those that don't find the new features compelling they can enjoy there currently working hardware and bank the upgrade fees.
