Default Getting Bounces to Ipod

How are you guys getting your bounces to your iPod? I know how to get the bounce into iTunes and get it on my iPod what I mean is, what's the level you use on the bounce? What bit rate and file format do you use? After you've imported it into iTunes if and when you convert it to mp3 what sample rate do you use? I find that most of my mixes translate ok when using headphones with the iPod, but whenever I use the digital out to plug into one of the million iPod devices it doesn't sound quite as good. Is it my method or just one of the downfalls of the iPod?

Default Re: Getting Bounces to Ipod

well the bitrate makes a huge difference on what you're trying to convert. If you save the song/ track to a higher bitrate let's say 224 - 356 Kbps @ 44.1 Khz, it will sound fine. The iPod is just an MP3 player and it does it very well. If you can convert to MP4 or AAC it sounds a little better. I'm pretty sure PT can't bounce to those latter formats but I will check here in a bit.

The deal with MP3 is this......

The lower bitrate like 128 - 96 Kbps means a smaller file size and poorer sound quality.

The higher bitrate like 224 - 356 Kbps means a little larger file and better sound quality.

Anything in between 128 - 224 Kbps is entirely up to you. I have heard good and bad sound from both.

A basic song in .WAV format is about 35 - 50MB. That same song that was converted to 356Kbps is about anywhere from 4 - 7MB in size. The man who created the MP3 format was a genius. That's why we now have 10 million+ peer to peer sharing sites and programs.

Hope this helps dude!!
