Default August 2018 - a day is coming D-Command ES

By the end of the August it will be an official The End of Support for all D-Command / D-Control ES consoled.
I am getting melancholic but I still love my black D-Command ES24

I have an old blue D-Command and have no intention of giving it up. Entry price for an S6 makes no economic sense for my music recording studio.

I am stocking up on faders, fader caps, and track display modules. I might get a couple power supplies as well.

Same here will

Where are you buying your parts at?

Yes S6 makes no economical sense for low budget indie films I am mixing.
I hope to work for some more years with my D Command ES24, but the faders are getting old I am afraid.
Whats the ultimate place for buying good quality faders?

D-Command has 3 power supplies in the main unit and two power supplies in the fader packs. However, of the three power supplies in the main unit, only two of them (the same as the fader packs) die. The “logic” power supply rarely goes. And the power supplies can be rebuilt. It’s always about replacing the blown capacitors. So you only need 1 spare of each type to swap in while repairing the broken ones.

Yeah PSU's are not rocket science. A few standard components mixed with a few less common, but as above it's usually caps that die. Easy, VERY easy to replace for a few cents (if you can solder, which is also easy).

I'm sticking on my D-command come hell or high water. There's nothing missing from PT (even 12) that's enough to make me give it upt just to be on PT 2019 or w/e.

Also factor in that they probably won't completely drop it like they did with Control 24, it'll run for 5 years PAST the official cut off date, but you may get some bugs in future PT's and zero support (hardware or software). I don't think it'll suddenly stop working any time soon.

Those who are scared should just sell up now so I can grab another fader pack at a bargain price!

Same with us D-Control guys.

No chance in hell I'm upgrading to S6.

I'll stick to whatever works with the D-Control. It's more important to me than having the latest version of Pro Tools. The workflow is too good to give up.

Stefan.

Just got a D-Control for a very reasonable price. Totally psyched, beautiful desk!
One thing I note is that the new Avid desks seem a little chintzy compared to the solid (and heavy D-Control).

I personally believe that the stability of the Icon platform is due to the fact that “they don’t run Eucon”
