New Markers -- no way to specify a marker END?
I see that AVID improved markers. I am trying to add a marker for a clip but not have it extend to the end of the session and without having to create another dummy marker. Am I missed this or did Avid overlook this?

Re: New Markers -- no way to specify a marker END?
Exactly--I want to create markers with a defined range that does not automatically go to the next marker, or to the end of the session.

Re: New Markers -- no way to specify a marker END?
Thanks, I tried creating a selection marker on a single track, but can't get it to work. I've been through the manual, so I must be doing something else wrong.

Re: New Markers -- no way to specify a marker END?
I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. Not at the computer to track but markers in Pro tools “go on forever” until the next one unless I’m wrong. I think even if you choose a selection instead of memory location the marker ruler still appears to continue on anyway even if had a defined selection in the memory locations window.

Re: New Markers -- no way to specify a marker END?
The selection markers end up in the Memory Location window. The current Pro Tools UI is not designed to show them on a timeline. That would take changing how things are presented and the sort of thing that is hard to know what to do correctly with a timeline UI with potentially many overlapping selections.
And when you use those selection markers in the memory location window they most certainly "have a range" you see that in the edit window as you select any memory location. |

Re: New Markers -- no way to specify a marker END?
Selection markers work (on ruler or track.)
And it is as Darryl said. Open the memory location window! This is literally the point of them. There can be overlapping selection markers (as many as you'd like.) Marker's don't "continue to the end of the timeline" or "to the next marker." All you are seeing is the colour bar. That isn't the marker itself. Regular markers are just single positions.

Re: New Markers -- no way to specify a marker END?
I was hoping that with the Markers update it'd be possible to place something similar to a Post-It note directly on a track with a range determined by the edit selection. Maybe that's possible, but I haven't been able to do it yet.

Re: New Markers -- no way to specify a marker END?
That isn't how markers work.
If you want to do that, create a midi track and then a midi clip/region. Name the region your text. You can still create selection markers and put as much text as you want in the Comments section but it isn't visible from the edit window. You have to open the marker (from the memory location window) to see the comment.

In addition, comments are visible in the edit window for location markers in the current version of Pro Tools 2023.6.
Make sure the comments icon is turned on and blue https://youtu.be/FcLtOCu3v4U?feature=shared |
