Default Re: DIGI 003 interface not responding

Something that pops for me on this Sandra is: Windows 7 64 bit with drives that are either FAT32, or 5400 rpm, or USB and any or all of these could be a problem. Try stripping the system down to the bare minimum with only internal SATA drives that are 7200 rpm and formatted as NTFS and BASIC and see if this helps. BTW, I re-read my earlier post and can't find anything in there that is remotely rude. Maybe you have a chip on your shoulder? In any case, I do come here to help, as I have been helped by many before me and try to give back. As you spend time here and do more reading, you will probably start to see where I cam from with all my comments and maybe come to think of me as someone that tries to help, as opposed to how you assume me to be

i know about the 5400rpm thing and i have an internal sata 320gb WD 7200 drive that i do all my pro tools stuff on. i have no idea what fat32 is to be honest lol, and the usb drive is for other things. but i finally got pass the bsods and got it working again on 8 0 3cs2. i see in your stats you got an 003 working on 8 0 4? i plan on making a asus build. but that for another time. so r those thigns, something that can effect my system overtime? pro tools wise i mean?

BSOD is often caused by old PACE interlok drivers. Make sure you have the latest there. As for Fat32, its a drive format type that was big years ago, but is now going away(only drives I have in that format are USB pen drives). FAT32 used to be handy for moving files between Mac and PC as both XP and OS9 would read/write to FAT32 drives, but OSX and Windows 7 are both moving away from compatibility. I can't say for sure that a USB drive will cause problems if you are not actually using it during a session, but its worth a try, removing it to see if it helps. Now, I re-read the Sandra and this:
Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 9100 (16 SM4.0 1.2GHz, 256MB
DDR2, Integrated Graphics)

is quite probably a problem, especially if this is a desktop machine. If you have an open PCIe slot, pop in a cheap ATI or nVidia 256 or 512 video card and set BIOS to use the PCIe as the graphics engine(disabling the integrated video completely). Its also possible that tyhe firewire controller is not compatible(TI firewire seems to be the best for PT).

Default Those who had the Digi 002 and 003 freezing with PT 8.04 LE. Is it fixed in PT 9 ???

Hi,

some people had weird problems with their Digi 002 and 003 consoles acting up under PT 8.04 (also cs2).
The consoles would be freezing and not responding after a while as described in these threads:

DIGI 003 interface not responding

LE 8.0.4 update not playing well with 002

my 003 factory freezes during sessions.

A new thread with this issue: Digi 002 unit - the lights are on but there's no-body home

As PT 9 is based on the 8.04 code, I have to ask before I can consider upgrading to PT 9, shelling out money, installing, having the same issues, deinstalling, reinstalling, terror.

Any of you people who had those issues which made PT 8.04 unusable and had to roll back to at least 8.03, are those bugs still present in PT 9 ??

Thanks for any confirmation from people who actually had those issues with 8.04.

Cheers

Can't say for sure as I have not had any freezing on any version. I suspect that its a computer hardware or setup issue. PT9 running very well here

Albee, thanks for your input, but I knew you'd be responding that all is fine with your setup

That's why my request is primarily directed to those people (and they are not few) that had those exactly same issues that were introduced the first time with PT 8.04 LE.

My system is rock solid until 8.04.. it's the same with the other dudes that have those issues. We haven't collectively changed our hardware setups when upgrading to 8.04.

I won't post a Sandra, my word and a rough overview about my setup and choice of quality components will be enough to tell you there has got to be something changed/introduced with 8.04 that started causing weird stuff happening. Also that mis-aligning of recorded audio started with 8.04 afaik.

Lenovo Thinkpad T60p, C2D 7200, 4 GB quality Ram, TI controller chip in the Thinkpad, TI chip FireWire PCMCIA card, Win 7 Pro 32 bit.

Rock-solid performance up until and including PT 8.03 cs2.

Funny thing is, without changing anything else, going from 8.03 to 8.04 automagically introduces the freezing issue, going back to 8.03 resolves any issues.

I actually saw something about this issue (or one strikingly similar) on another forum (I forget which one) and saw a strange solution.

otobot, do you have ASIO4ALL installed at all? If so which version? Also, have you tried the latest version? Or uninstalling it temporarily?

If not, nevermind; it's not the same issue.

Thanks for replying spkguitar! Indeed I have Asio4All on my Thinkpad. I don't know the exact version number since I'm not at my Thinkpad right now.

Would be great if you could remember which forum that was. I could deinstall Asio4All temporarily which is easy, but that would also mean installing PT 8.04 and probably deinstalling it and reinstalling 8.03 again.

If we could confirm that suspission by finding that forum post it would be really worth a try going through all that hassle. I know you'll say imaging the system is easy, but right now I'm reluctant to get Acronis True Image because of the many negative stories I've read about the recent version.

I saw other people with the same issue on Gearslutz who I directed to the threads here and suggested to roll back to 8.03 cs2.

Thanks!
