Default Mbox BIG Problem

Hi,

I have a huge problem with my Mbox(1), when i'm using my Protools LE 6.9 cs4 (running on a G5 Biproc 1,8 Ghz, with Panther X.3.9, core audio 6.9), some times the sound drop out, and i hear a sound like a white noise, its very noisy and when it hapens, I go to the hardware setup change the source from analogue to spdif and again to analogue, and it stop the noise. Then i can work till the same noise restart.

I think there's a probleme with the internal clock, any idea?

Thanks, and sorry for my english.

This is something that has come up before, but I don't remember a specific fix for it.

Looking at your setup - did you let Quicktime 7 get installed along with 10.3.9? Quicktime 7 on 10.3 is a well known cause for lots of problems with PT, although I don't know that the white noise thing is one of them. You might first want to experiment with using a powered USB hub for your Mbox, that sometime clears up strange behaviour, and it's not to hard to downgrade to Quicktime 6.x should you decide to give that a shot - there's instructions on Apple's support pages on how to do the downgrade.

You should also just check out the "General Troubleshooting" thread, maybe something in there will solve the problem.

This sounds like the same thing I was encountering. I would get this after doing long form editing with FCP and/or Soundtrackpro. After finishing either, if I went to any app using the coreaudio... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF. My solution is to toss the coreaudio pref. Yeah it still happens here and there. But at least I know now how to fix it, instead of pulling out my hair wondering what the problem is...

Try to update with "MBox Firmware Updater Rev 20" (http://www.digidesign.com/download/mbox/) even if the updater "said" you already have the later version. I've fix the same problem with this metod after see it sugested by a Digidesign moderator in DUC.
