Thanks, good to know, but the EVO and the QVO are different designs, so problems with one might not cross over to the other.

Only the QVO is available as an 8TB drive.

Thanks. Still faster than my 12TB G-Drive which manages 150MB/s on a sustained copy, not including disconnections and starting all over again.

For backup I have three 8 TB 870 QVO drives in external OWC cases, so far so good. But I might add that these drives are also fast enough for sample libraries too, while simultaneously running video in PT. And I was only using one of the drives for both.

Thanks. Which OWC cases do you use - I had the Envoy of some description when I upgraded my 2015 MBP internal SSD, to hold the old chip as an external drive. Clever idea, but slow.

I like these. I use it with two EVOs

https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MEMDC2KIT/

Can be bus powered or use its power supply. Still small enough to be portable. (I use as independent disks not RAID)

They are about 2 times bigger though. No need to have an external power supply. All will be powered from a hub easily.

I've had great luck with all Samsung SSDs (except QVO), and also Crucial.
Darryl's firmware post was invaluable.

I have also noticed a sad downhill run with WD products. I stopped buying anythink they make (include G-Tech, which they now own - and install their crappy SMR mechanisms into). I had one fail irretrievably after a few hours use. Luckily it was only being backed up to when it failed.

anyone tried something like these dual SSD enclosure/hubs with a Mac Studio ?
1. Example 1
2. Example 2
3. Example 3

I haven't, because I've already set things up a different way, but if I were starting over again I'd consider one of those.
