Default EUControl

To S3 users,

Could anyone explain why my Avid S3 is no longer being recognised through ProTools 11.2.2 also ProTools 12.5.0 even after linking the Ethernet Controller within the Peripherals pane of the software.

I have the current EUControl software 3.3.2 and have connected the Ethernet and Enable EUCON selected inside ProTools software but moving to any project will not allow the faders to register for use on the S3 desk.

Regards

Is the S3 showing up in your My Surfaces list in EuControl settings?

To axiom,

Yes the S3 is showing in the My Surfaces list of EuControl just checked these settings in the Show info box which says Protocol 1.0 Firmware 1.1.3 PCB:16 Rev so this should be the current Firmware.

The Good News is ProTools seems to be seeing the S3 now!

Would you know of a way to keep these settings stored inside the DAW or the S3 for future use I would like to see a feature for ProTools to remember these setting through EUCON and The Ethernet Controllers panel.

Eucon and Ethernet Controllers,

Would any ProTool or S3 users know of third party companies who have implemented this protocol and how to expand its overall use with Avid equipment.

EuCon don't like to much traffic in the same ethernet port. If possible have all EuCon products in a separated ethernet port.

Hi Marco,

You say that EuCon does not like much traffic on the same ethernet port.

Is it possible to use an external Ethernet switch along with EuCon to create a small network using the Avid S3 for audio monitoring etc.

If you are planning to use AVB you need a special ethernet switch that supports AVB.

If the switch shares the same port as your S3 it doesn't change the traffic at all, since the traffic is always going thru your computer.
For changing the traffic load you need a second ethernet port.

For reliable S3 usage I have my S3 on a slave power socket so it always comes on together with my computer. That way it always gets recognized.
If you change the turn on sequence it could get weird. That's my experience...

You should put your hardware in the signature so we know what kind of computer you are using... etc..

To Made,

My Macbook Pro does not support AVB so that is out.

Most of the digital signal will be going through the laptop via the S3 and Focusrite but I would like to include audio from Dante Via.

Any thoughts could Ethernet & Dante Via, Avid S3 controller work together as a upgradable sound system.

PS: I Have updated the hardware signature on my Public Profile.

Yes, you can use a external ethernet switch, bug don't go cheap, it might not work with AVB, you need to choose one that work with AVB.

We at work use the second ethernet port to connect to a 48 ethernet switch that connect to all post audio rooms, and it's running ok since I decide to do this path, instead using the same port that it was used for intranet, internet, etc... But as we don't need the AVB we didn't care about losing it.

ps: sorry for delay, I missed the post...

but how do you get digital audio into the S3 if your Macbook doesn't support AVB ?

In my opinion the AVB option of the S3 is highly overrated...
It's too limited to use it as a main interface and not integrated in the PT HD I/O so therefore useless in that combo...

I once read about an audio router that does MADI AVB and Dante, but can't find info about it... it was expensive.
I would go either Dante or AVB... (I think Dante is more established in the Pro world)
