NI Maschine Vs. Pro Tools v9
Hi!
first of all I ask you all to be patience with my BAD english! so, I rock with NI Maschine, but I got a simple/serious/bad problem when I use it on ProTools! I worked with Florian (Native Instrument Support Center) to resolve it but its incredible, at last, he asked me to contact ProTools support/forum to look for the right way! On the way: the simple thing I wanna make is to play the drum MaSchine, write midinotes directly in a protools midi channel, and playback it! SIMPLE!....but doesn't work! (One point!...I made/Tried it on Logic and Cubase and it works fine!) So, to do that, I: - Make an instrument Channel and put Maschine in "Insert" as a plug-in - Make a Midi Channel in ProTools - Set the ProTools midi channel I/O on "MASCHINE > CHANNEL 1" as a input midi source - !!!NOW I have to set "Maschine > Channel 1" also as a Midi Output, but when I do it, the "Input" automatically changes as "ALL" and if I try to put again "MASCHINE > CHANNEL 1" as a input midi source, it says a message like this: "Maschine 1 - n/a because possible feedback loop detected"! I'm also made a video to try to explain better the problem, so you can download it here: files.me.com/ciappydj/nkwjgf.mov Thank you very much in advance to all people wants to spend few time for my cause! |

Re: NI Maschine Vs. Pro Tools v9
Your input source should be the keyboard or controller that you want to play Maschine, NOT the Maschine MIDI input. The message is correct as you are, in fact, creating a MIDI feedback loop.

Re: NI Maschine Vs. Pro Tools v9
not sure, but typically the instrument track (where the sound source VI is loaded) MIDI In is set to all (under the Instrument part of the track header. This allows it to be controlled by whatever controller you have. The MIDI track is set to the MIDI channel of the instrument loaded in the VI on the instrument track, This is done internally in the software interface of the Instrument you have loaded on the instrument track. So if you have a sound loaded on channel one, set the midi track to 1 and it will play that sound. This is when you do multitimbral sample or synth players like Kontakt. I am not sure what the sound source for Maschine is? I have never used Maschine. Many sound Instruments have only one channel, for instance Velvet or Minigrand. Some drum modules traditionally used to have MIDI channel 10 assigned as their input, but I think in software, this is completely optional. Any Maschine experts feel free to correct me if I am wrong

Yes, but the controller (Maschine) can't be selected in input source. And also, if I select "all" as input, I'm able to write/record notes only with keyboard but NOT with controller! To write/records midi notes using the controller (Maschine), I have to select "none" in the output and "Maschine > channel x" as input, so it works fine but not in playback!...to playback I have to set again "maschine channel x" as a output, and "none" as a input! Please see the video, if you can, cause I think you'll understand better. tnx again |

Re: NI Maschine Vs. Pro Tools v9
On my PT9 HD setup, I can get Maschine to work as a controller like this:
1. Create an instrument track with Maschine on it. 2. Put Maschine into MIDI mode using SHIFT-CONTROL on the Maschine Controller. 3. Create a separate MIDI track. 4. On the MIDI track, set Maschine as the input and output. |

Yes!....this is how I'm using it now too! but I dont know, and I don't understand, why, with cubase and logic it doesn't needs to use/setup maschine in MIDI mode to write notes into a midi channel!.....it is much better becouse you dont have to switch maschine every time in MIDI mode! what do you think about? And the other main problem using this kind of setup is the response of midi playing Maschine in MIDI mode....it's too bad as I Playing Maschine in StandAlone/Plug-in mode!....there's a little delay! It's the same for you? Last edited by CiappyDJ; 05-09-2011 at 03:51 AM. Reason: add contents |

Re: NI Maschine Vs. Pro Tools v9
Yes, it's that way for me too, unfortunately. I don't use it as a controller very often. I was just making sure you knew how it had to be set up.
