Midi question

I imported a midi file into pro tools 8m, hoping to change its voicing to a grand piano plug in. However, the midi file shows up but there is no option for me to choose a plug in insert. Can anyone help?

create an instrument track, copy the midi notes from the midi file onto the instrument track and insert the grand piano on the instrument track you should be good to go

You can also make the output of the MIDI track be the MINIGrand or whatever piano you are using, and keep the both tracks.

This is really useful for editing purposes, say you want the left hand parts to be on a different track than the right hand parts, or if you want to do some transposition, etc... you have all of the MIDI channels triggering the same- or different instruments.

MIDI in Pro Tools is extremely powerful and flexible- it's really helpful to get to know it's power - especially if you're using virtual instruments...
