Default Process Card Question... Accel vs non Accel

specifically for PCI X macs. i want to get a process card but wanna be 100% clear before buying..

from what ive read.. there is an Acell version for pcix and also a non acel version.. correct?

is the price difference a lot?

is the processing difference a lot?

i ask cause in ebay the prices are weird. some hd proces card go for 1k same as acell and then other times it goes for 300.

im guessing its something i have to really watch out for. any tips?
how much should i pay for a good process card?
\
thx

Hi,

You are correct there are PCI process and PCI accel

Accel is approx 2x the processing power of a process card but depends on which plugs used etc.

accel cards are needed to run certain plugins which are accel only!! revibe/impact/etc and also give you a higher track count.

Process cards can go for as little as $300-$400

Last 2 process cards i bought on ebay have been faulty!! one died totally the second has 2-3 faulty chips. they are quite a few years old now!!

Chris

Thx

So u didn't mention used accel pcix prices...

I've seen them for$1200

Is that ok?

How about track count ... Will it change ?
I basically will be using the stock compressor and eq
and a good reverb... Maybe revibe or altiverb

it's Mostly for stem mixing and post/ sound design
so maybe I can do with a non aceel process card....??

If you want to use Revibe, you need an Accel card.

Track count is the same with Accel or HD Process card, but your track count does go up once you go beyond just the core HD card. An HD2 or HD2 Accel will give you the maximum voices possible with HD.

HD2 process only gives you 128 voices and a HD2 accel gives you 196 voices.

Chris

so.. it seems that some people out there are confused or are preying on the confused but there are ebay many listings for process hd card for 1200 , same price as the acell version.

so , or they dont know that there are 2 versions thus when they see other posting of pcix cards going for 1.2k they asume thats the price for a process card (as in all are the same)

or Aholes knowing this wanna upprice it to see if someone falls

FYI a tech note..... The CORE card and previous PROCESS CARD (for PCIX) have (9) chips on them, (7) of which are 220MHz and (2) that are 100MHz. The ACCEL CARDS (including the PCIE CORE CARD) have (9) chips all of which are 220Mhz. Okay wait, don't quote me on the PCIE Core card, but I think that is the case.
