No Audio On Playback

I've have a situation where certain playlists won't play audio. Specifically, I have ten drum tracks grouped together and on certain playlists I see the waveform, but there is no reading in the channel meter and no audio. I select a different playlist and the audio and meter reading are fine. Any idea what's going on?

As a work around, I just created a fresh session importing session data and was recording along fine and playback was good until I suddenly got a frying sound that just about blew off my headphones. And now I'm getting that "fried" sound on the playback of just the tracks that I just recorded. Maybe my 003 is fried? But why on only specific tracks?

Your 003 is probably fine. Have you ran the Verify Disk command in Disk Utility on the drive that contains your Pro Tools session?

I just repaired permissions, trashed the prefs, and did a pram reset. Then I created a fresh session, recorded some tracks and still no output or channel meter reading.

So you mean I should run Verify Disk command on my external PT audio hard drive?

I just ran Verify Disk on my external drive and it says it "appears to be OK."

If you go to Setup-->Playback Engine… and toggle the H/W Buffer Size to some other value, does proper playback resume?

I think it's a HD issue. I am using a new thunderbolt HD which says it requires Mac OS 10.7 to operate. Since I rolled the OS back to 10.6.8 to accommodate PT 8 I think it is having compatibility issues. I went back to my old USB HD and it works fine so far.
