That transformerless Rane walked all over most of the kewl fashionable preamps in a blind shootout. The DAV is a similar approach. The Gordon is a go for the throat no chip high voltage approach. For my single mike setup for my wife's webcasts I use a Daking Mic Pre One because it has a great variable high pass filter and the Trident A-Range FET circuit with a Jensen input transformer sounds great! The only other Preamp I'd use is the Gordon.

this test?
http://www.recordingreview.com/blog/...artech-mss-10/
http://recordingreview.com/audio/Ran...ech.zip?3e3423

it should be 24-bit 48Khz to be credible...
Apogee AD-16x has transformer emulation circuit, "not as transparent as" Lynx Aurora & others for example.

i did not registered to that website, i hate people tricking me to register...
anyway i liked: Percussion_A.wav, Rain_B.wav

I had a pair of the Rane's for awhile and they were very good. I've got a Daking IV and love it. With their current pricing it's hard to beat.

I managed to get a Focusrite ISA one for £200 and DAV BG1 for £255

So gives me a bit of flexibility.

Well I recieved it this afternoon...setup a quick recording of a classical guitar.

Decided to use a Rode NT1A as it was ready setup...never liked this mic on guitars always sounded to bright for me on guitars...suits so vocals well for a budget mic...

The BG1 sounds big , full and tames the bright nature of the NT1A somewhat...it's sounds professional....

I recorded the same guitar part with the onboard pres of the Octa capture and it's a night and day difference....they sound thin and like a recording...

The BG1 sounds like I'm listening to someone playing the guitar part in real life

For the price I paid its seems a bit of a bargain for a dual channel mic pre of this quality...it's an ugly thing but it's got a mad scientist vibe to it

Iv'e been trying to get some decent mic pres and after a month searching and haggling on the net

Focusrite ISA One £ 200

DAV Electronics BG1 £ 255

I just need another pre and I'm pretty much there.I don't need more than 4 for the drums. Currently got 3 mic pre channels and a Focusrite Di so should give me some flexibilty.

They all sound amazing. Its amazing what you can pick up.

Oktava Mk 012 recording some acoustic guitar parts....Its amazing that once you get some quality stuff the sound quality sounds so professional it inspires creativity.
