Pro Tools 8.05 upgrade cannot find a valid installation (Solved)
March 25, 2011. I notice 146 people have looked here since I posted my problem and vented my frustration with Avid/m-audio. Well here is what worked for me, without further bitching. If you get the "can't find a valid installation" message and an aborted install it is because the download has something wrong with it, not the fact there is something wrong with your current install of 8.04. I redownloaded the 8.05 upgrade and it installed just fine. Good luck, and I hope you never need any real help, like from Avid, because you will never get it. Dickcee
My Original Post:
I have downloaded the Pro Tools 8.05 upgrade for my 8.04 m-powered installation. I have successfully installed Pro Tools 8.04 and it works just fine with my Fast track Pro and the ILOK. It's "valid," believe me. How can I direct my 8.05 upgrade to the 8.04 installation, seeing as it can't find it on its own? The current installation is under Programs (x86). I have reviewed the other posts regarding this issue, one of which suggested uninstalling and starting over making sure things are installed to the default location. Well, I did that with an identical result stating I do not have a valid installation. Again 8.04 works just fine. Unfortunately, since the forum appears to be as helpful as the Pro Tools/AVID support. I'll use this space to bitch. From the time I bought a 1010LT thru the purchase of a Fast Track Pro, thru the purchase of Prol Tools M-powered I have received Zero - that's ZEEEERO -support from M-audio/AVID. I occasionally see people getting some apparent help from forum members, but that exercise has proved useless to me as well. Mostly I see people giving up and disappearing into the sunset. If somebody from AVID or otherwise can provide some assistance I will humbly eat crow, but until then I say thanks for a useless upgrade and thanks for zero support. Love, Dickcee
