You may be misunderstanding what I'm saying. High/higher CPU use when stopped *is* a classic sign of denormalization issues. The only way for you to know for sure is to do the work troubleshooting.

Hi Darryl, Ooops! Yeah, I have absolutely missunderstood your message. LOL
I'm so sorry, but as you for sure have figure out, english is not my mother language.

I will keep you posted if I find the culprit plugin of this issue.

Thanks!

Have you tried removing/disabling plugins one-by-one (or in batches) yet?

Yep he should do that as well, however optimizations should be done first. And it should have already been done.

What up Alpine Texas? Small town...been through there a lot on the way to MX. Alpine, Marfa, Ojinaga.....All beautiful places

So many of these kinds of issues revolve around plugins...

Hi There,
Finally I could perform the different tests with the plugins. Indeed I have found a plugin that could be the cause of a percentage of the problem, exactly 15% of the problem, the plugin is: "Abbey Rever Plates" from Waves. Then I have found another plugin, this time from Avid, that is the culprit of another 3% of the problem: the reverb "Revibe II". In the mix in which I have been making my tests I had two instances of Revibe II, so removing those two instances I have saved a 6% from the CPU overload.

At this moment my CPU is around 40% in the mix session. The rest of plugins do not give any relevant problem, only if I'm removing one by one the CPU usage is decreasing as I deactivate plugins. But there is no plugin that reduces 15% of use, not even 1%. If I delete all the plugins, the CPU consumption drops to 1%.

ALL these tests without doing at any time PLAY, with ProTools completely stopped.

Is it a problem of de-normalizing plugins or ProTools 12?

I am inclined to think that it is rather the second, and in truth this never happened before. Tomorrow I will try to activate my old computer with PT10 to measure the CPU, but I do not remember that the CPU even reached the 30% in mixes that exhausted the 192 voices of PT10. And much less with ProTools completely stopped. It's crazy! Every time I regret more to have moved to ProTools 12.

BTW, I said that I have never done any optimization to my system, but actually, I did. And I could not found nothing in the info from Avid for High Sierra that I had not done previously in any machine I have had in all these years.

Any ideas? People from Avid.... Are you there?

Thanks in advance!

Uninstall and reinstall all your Waves plugins (its easy enough to do with the current waves installer to do them all). I believe there were some fixes for Sierra/High Sierra.
