CM 401 Control Room Output issue - Help needed!
Hi.
Something started to happen recently and I have not been able to isolate why: When moving the Control Room Volume knob down from maximum, the volume drastically reduces when I reach -15 until t's almost off at -18. Continuing to move the knob down results in the sound coming back quite loud just under -18. The same thing happens although less drastically at -25 db. The exact spots where this occur is 100% reproducible. Changing the monitor calibration does not alter the behavior. It's still at -15. The same thing happen when I solo an input and use the solo knob, so I'm pretty sure it's not the volume encoder - the encoder display is also very smooth, unlike the audio output. Could be the MC524? But I swapped the 2 cards and the problem remains the same. Any ideas? |

Sounds like the TCC card or cable.

Thanks.
I tried two different cables, same issue. I re-seated the card - same issue. I re-flashed the firmware of the TCC card - same issue. I tried using the Monitors A. B, C and D as an alternative, same issue. Any other ideas? |

You could try testing the encoder/boards.
Test Mode on a control module is the upper 2 left-most buttons pressed simultaneously after boot. Encoder test on a 401 is the ‘EQ/Filts’ button on the Channel Strip. Watch the readout and the Halo as the encoder is turned. Look for erratic behavior. |

Thanks, I'll do that. Do you know if there's a way to capture the TCC Input/output and checkout what data arrives IN the card and/or what come OUT? |

Re: CM 401 Control Room Output issue - Help needed!
Thanks Eddie.
Tested the 401. All knobs functioning perfectly and smoothly. Since all the outputs demonstrate the same behavior, I did not expect all the knobs to be mis-functioning. It seems to be a control issue. Either card, cable or 524. Since I tried two cables with no change of behavior, I assume it's either card or 524. Since I tried the 2 cards swap in the 524 with no change in behavior, it's most likely either the 524 control board or the TCC card. I you know any way to isolate the culprit, I would appreciate it. |

Re: CM 401 Control Room Output issue - Help needed!
I am now successfully using Digital Monitors, which obviates the problem caused by the disfunction described above.
But to be honest, I would prefer to use the MC524 in its original purpose. I would still appreciate assistance in handling the cause of the problem so I have a fully functioning system. |
