Unhappy MBox 2 + Pro Tools LE 8 + Vista = Blue Screens of Death

Okay, so I just bought a brand new Mbox2 online a few days ago, and received it this morning. I pop in the CD, start installing Pro Tools. It asks me to plug in my MBox. Plug it in. Blue screen, citing BAD_POOL_HEADER. Argh. I unplug the MBox2, restart the computer. Upon rebooting, I plug it back in to see if I can install the drivers then begin the Pro Tools installation. Blue screen. Restart. I search for what could be causing this, bringing me to http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...1&itemid=29812. I follow the instructions (disabling Data Execution Prevention (DEP)), restart my computer. Delete the Digidesign folder in my Program Files folder and begin installation again. Upon plugging in my MBox2, blue screen. So now I'm stuck. I can't find the name of the MBox2 driver so I can uninstall it and start over fresh, thinking this might be a remote possibility of a solution.

I'm running Vista Home Premium, SP1, which I know isn't officially supported. Anybody have any suggestions? I was really anxious to start getting comfortable with Pro Tools. I should have known better...

I can provide more details upon request. I can grab the memory location when it blue screens if that could prove useful.

-Danny

Sure...run XP.

Sorry. Had to throw that in. Maybe some of the others will be able to help out.

I have solved this in bios by turning off “EXECUTE DISABLE BIT.” And yes, even better run XP. Get back and let me know if this helps you.

+1 for XP. I tried Vista with HD and LE systems for ~ a month and went back running to XP.

Okay, I got PT LE 8 installed in Safe Mode, but still having the same issues when I plug in the hardware not in Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, it tries to install the drivers again, even though the full PT installation finished. When I try loading ProTools without the MBox 2 plugged in, I get a critical error, and it creates a log file of the following:

TOM, I can't find a way to turn that off in my BIOS settings. Does anybody know of any manual installations for the MBox 2 drivers?

Given your issues I think I would unistall PT and the Pace/ilok stuff. Run the PT NUKE Utility, reboot and and start fresh,

Depending on your processor/mobo you may not have the Execute Disable bit in BIOS

I'm going to cross my fingers, install Windows 7 32-bit beta, and hope for the best. Vista doesn't seem to be getting me anywhere quick.

Scratch that. I'm going to try reformatting first. I'll let you all know how it goes.
